So we are ok with using manipulate to disable weapons or items?
Sorry About The Mess: A PvP Tournament
Can manipulate even do that? I know it's got an upgrade to keep damaged gear working, and you can cause strain to Droids or vehicles. But how do you deactivate someone's equipment?
Bad motivator is a "once per" talent so it's still limited in only taking out your opponents most troubling piece of equipment.
An ion grenade works too.
With 8 nominations I think it's time to ask for character submissions. Post links here in the thread and I'll copy them into the first post for easy reference. I think we should look to have all submissions in by the end of the 28th, I won't be strict with exact time because of time zones, but in a week I'll start the process of arranging Heat 1.
Feel free to pick everyone's characters apart in a friendly and polite manner. It's going to be much easier to decide on how a skill/talent should work before the actual games begin. This may be a competition but it's between friends so politeness is important.
Also a reminder that most of the scenarios are from here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/pwbzr6clnnots10/EotE - Environmental Set Pieces v1.9.pdf?dl=0
Theres some serious complications there that could change the balance of a battle quickly, so be prepared!
heres the list of encounters
- Arctic Snowfield
- Battlefield
- Desert Sand Dune
- Detention Block (without Droids)
- Frozen Ice Cave (without Wampa)
- Hanger
- Hover train car (exterior)
- Hover train car (interior) (without the troops)
- Infested Grassland
- Jungle (without predatory plant)
- Junkyard (without mynocks)
- Research Lab (without Mutant creature)
- Rocky Mountain Side
- Starship Passage
- Toxic Mud Flat (without muck worm)
- Urban Skywalk
- Volcanic Canyon (without the Trandoshian Hunter)
- Outside Hull of a Star Destroyer (no atmosphere, mag boots, small asteroids?)
- Construction Site (lots of elevation, dangerous materials)
- Cantina, bar brawl (crowded, bystanders getting involved)
- Inside a falling Turbo Lift (zero g and close range)
- Droid Manufacturing Facility (lots of very hazardous events)
- In an animal stampede (land based, falling hazards, impacts with animals)
- Darkend Alley (lots of elevation with fire escapes, darkness)
- Inside a derelict space station (zero g, dangerous atmosphere)
The other piece of house keeping is fleshing out scenarios 18-25 in the above list. I'm happy to do some, but if anyone has time and could contribute a simple outline that would be great. There needs to be some mechanics for the complications of the scene, as well as a short list of ways to spend Threat/Despair

Well sure. But you still need to meet certain requirements to do that.
1) Have a tool kit unless you have talents to not require one.
2) Have access to the weapon in nature, requiring engaged range.
Here is my entry, a bit rough, but whatever. XD I adjust when it isn't so late here. http://swsheets.com/c/sba4pg8sw-tanson-stryder
This is my tentative entrant. I really wanted to make a Warden/Soresu, but I didn't enjoy the character... this though is something else entirely.
Illbi Bach is a Zabrak and member of the Rebel Special Forces that would get on well with Saw Garera. An Executioner Armourer, he relies on defence and decent Soak to keep safe. His tactic is to hit hard, attempting to Crit you into oblivion if you don't go unconscious first.

Looks pretty cool! I admit I probably haven't given myself an optimal setup; I usually find equipment setup the most boring part of character creation so I just picked up a bunch of guns and slapped the same mod on most of them. XD
I think I may be unprepared for the amount of ranged that seems to be going around.........

To be fair if you catch me; he's more or less dead. Just I'll be a gunslinger this time, force senstive another.
So while I was drafting my character I was looking at the armor types and found two that would seem to fit my idea. One adds a boost die to stealth checks (Alliance Light Stealth Armor, FiB) the other adds a setback to perception checks to detect the wearer (Imperial Storm Commando Armor, FiB). Since one was apparently designed for NPCs and the other for PCs, how would we rule this? Would they both basically provide both benefits, or would they only provide one? Also, are we doing stealth checks as stealth vs vigilance/perception or vigilance/perception vs stealth?
The acting character should be the one to roll, so if you're trying to hide yourself you want boosts. But if your hidden already and the opponent is searching for you then the Setback option will be better.
I would prefer to leave them as they are, if we start changing things like that the it's a very deep rabbit hole

Manipulate could enhance Bad Motivator, but wouldn't mitigate Bad Motivator's effects, since the talent doesn't damage an item, but rather causes it to "fail." Are we talking about them being used by the same PC or each being used by a competing PC?
Is it too late to join? If not, what is the deadline for character submissions?
(Also happy to GM, if that does not constitute a conflict of interest).
Edited by Darth LectusStill fine to join, around the 28th it will be cut off. Just fill out the google form from the first post so everyone's name is together in one place.

Man, I'd like to... I'm looking at a rough week or two in terms of stuff I need to get done, though.
I can PM you when it looks like I'd be able to do another duel... or anyone else is welcome to play as Hasal Nisseen if they want!
I'm not sure I'd call this a "defensive character," but he's designed to be strong on defense: http://swsheets.com/c/myu4cmeqy-denthos-ren
Still not 100% sure I'll be able to play, but I think I can make time for it, August isn't looking too rough.

How many ranks does Arissa have in her ranked talents? I can't tell from this sheet

I've edited the sheet with the ranks next to the skill. Sorry that never occurred to me when filling it in.

Is this character for the tournament? Cause I cant figure out how you got all this stuff with the 18k credits.

I took the +2500 credits option.
I believe it's supposed to be 18,500 credits total to spend... 500 base starting credits +18,000 for double knight level. With the 2,500 extra that gives 21k total.
Yep you are right I didn't account for the starting option. That talisman, would that negate the parry from a saber?

No, it only gives pierce (and only to Brawl attacks). I just wanted a cortosis soak for the character, and bizarrely, the Talisman is cheaper than cortosis weave armor.
Edited by DaverWattrathe talisman is extremely potent

You have Inspired me to take the 2500 creds instead of the +10xp. I'm assuming we are allowed to change up until the actual submission limit day?

Still I'm not sure Arissa will be able to actually hurt you unless sundering the talisman is an option or somehow reduce your strain. I love seeing all the different stuff you can do with this system.
Yeah, I never power-game in my actual games, so I've been amazed at every turn what you can do if that's what you're shooting for.
