Sorry About The Mess: A PvP Tournament

By Richardbuxton, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So a shield/saber and armor wouldn't stack? Wouldn't the shield be cover?

I realized that i probably should have specified more.... But i tried to be honest with my priorities being first in line. But I'm happy to re roll.

You may keep the attachment as they are, no need to reroll.

But could you please fill in the damage and crit ratings for your weapon on the swsheet.

oh and where did you put your tinkerer point to??

The trouble with the shield was the reason I discarded mine in the beginning when the them came up first. so you may exchange the shield for something else.

BTW I am away from book but isn't the "defensive LS" normaly a 2 handed weapon?

One moment, I will check, I don't believe a defensive lightsaber is two handed natively, just staffs and pikes.

Edit: I have checked, it is one handed, only staffs and pikes are two.

Found the answer!

Thanks! @LordBritish wasn't sure about it ^^

Once I get Home I check the book for the 2 construction threats on that armor.

Can i switch out the shoto for a regular hilt if that's also not going to stack with armor... Its not a big deal i can do it after i beat you ;)...

The tinker point I'm using to decrease the cost to activate concussive to just 1adv

Sorry to tell you but no that wont work...

"tinkerer" just adds one more hardpoint to an item...

"jury rigged" would decrese the cost...

or "imbue item" for a maneuver and FR commitment (and strain each round)

For the selfbuild armor for your 2 remaining threads the armor gains the following negativ quality:

Restrictive: Ttle wearer of this armor adds 1 automatic THREAT to checks for one of the following skill: Athletics

yeah you may use a STANDARD Hilt, (this one damage wont help you ... too much... I hope)

Arrther is a sword and board guy, the trick I found is Soak 2 Armour is cheap, but Soak 2 with Defence 2 is not. A Cortosis Shield and cheap Soak 2 Armour is by far the most economical way for Soak 2 Defence 2.

If we where setting the rules now I would probably go with the Genesys rules, pick highest "Defence" then anything with "Defensive" or "Deflective" adds to your defence. In this way Armour with Defence 1, a Shield with Defensive 2/Deflective 2 and a Sword with Defensive 1 would be 3R/4M defence. Something for a future Melee arena perhaps.

Imbue was what i thought you were talking about...

I'm actually not gonna even use tinker

I think it's good now?

So, question for moving forward: Both @Imperial Stormtrooper's character and mine have thermal detonators or something very similar. These have turned out to be overpowered in that one hit and the kill pretty much anyone in the tournament. In our match against one another, we voluntarily decided not to use these. But going forward, I'm wondering 1) if we should retire these items, and 2) if we should be able to purchase equipment up to the cost of the TDs thus retired to compensate. I'd be happy to do this, but I'd like to be able to spend the credits elsewhere. What say our organizers?

@SavageBob and @Imperial Stormtrooper

If you want to give up on the TDs and switch them with equip that of the same value that's fine with me.

Also it is ok if you want to keep them since they weren't banned in the beginning.

If you exchange them just let us know for which equipment!

For the next Season we will apply this rule! With the capping at 4 (I personally like that rule the most!)

but since all characters where build with the "no stacking" rule we will stay with it until the end of this season.

Autofire and TD's both proved to be the machines of annihilation we knew them to be. Force Users proved to be Strain hungry beyond measure. Pistols proved to be the easiest thing to use... it's probably fair to say the balance is true to the setting.

Im definitely keen for an asymmetric fight between a squad and a combat vehicle of some variety, to really give those big guns a chance to shine.

Then some balanced fights with pre determined equipment, eg: everyone gets a Blaster Pistol, a Holdout Blaster, Laminate, 2 Stim Packs and a Vibro Sword. The challenge is to make the most of those items with the xp you're given.

Perhaps even some 2v2's, because I find that characters that are balanced for 1v1 combat or visa versa might benefit better from being paired up, then getting engaged might be a way to become sticky; e.g one has to spend a move to disengage a melee guy. Or alternatively have short missions, two competitive groups

Finally picked up Coordination Dodge for Grrawlryyhl, 25 pts.

Well, I won 2 (though one was under another rper) and lost two. That means I've got 30 exp to spend. Interesting! I will have bit of a gander and edit in what I change.

With 15 spent I have 20xp to go for Arrther and can't think of anything, it's not enough to cover any of his major short comings, even Ebb/Flow will likely be useless due to only FR1

Theres a few thoughts I have bouncing around

1) Invest in my signature ability more with 20/25 exp; choosing to alter two/three positive dice or/and, chose to affect my negative dice too. Given that he can already do this twice a session for one D, it would be a pretty nice pay off, if dependant on the D to trigger any of it at all. It would really help me to deal with overpowered gear by simply destroying it.
2) Invest in some skills. More ranks in cool? Range light? Even disp. XD Since my entire thing is going first, putting a skill rank in vig/cool isn't the worst thing in the world.

I'll make up my mind in a few minutes. Though the sig ability + some investment in cool seems to be winning atm.

So I had an idea. Idk if any of you play Magic. But there's a format called Canadian Highlander. 100 card Singleton format. Most importantly to my point tho is they don't have a ban and restricted list. There's a points system. So the more powerful cards have points added to them and your deck has a limited number if points allowed. I think this could translate to a future set of games quite well. Example - a thermal detinator is a full 5 out of 5 points and a saber is 4. So no one could be a saber wielding thermal chucking op jerk. But someone could take 5 1 point items and be quite well off. What do ppl think?

Doesn't sound that Bad. I know other systems like Tabletops that use these point system (Mage Knight e.g.)

But then we would have to think and crunch about making a sufficent list what cost how many points.

Thats the beauty of the system, not every item needs points only those few that can cause problems in combination.
