Sorry About The Mess: A PvP Tournament

By Richardbuxton, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

@LordBritish Well you'll be also able to participate in the quarters (otherwise we would become an uneven number) and you had an *cought cought* excellent *cought cought* substitued in the last match ^^

The points of the heats are mainly to decide on the EXP earned and to determin the starting place in quarters and so every one has a chance to show his character strength even if he is unlucky on one pairing (remebering PONGO vs Grrwalryyhl where the TD on the first check finished the Battle of)

I'll try to make the set Ups in the Arenas as soon as possible so everybody may start! (if someone beats me on this... well it will be appreciated)

@awayputurwpn would you do the honor of GMing Arena A (since that is the place where I will fight against @TheShards new character)

[somehow I've got a wild card feeling here]

Ok Arena B, C and D are set, the particiance may start any time.

Only Arena A isn't set since TheShard has to present his char before the location should be determined!

looking forward to the matches.

I don't think Pango got any XP award for the last match. I had 5 banked XP for the previous win, and was banking on 5 more to buy a new talent. It's 5 XP for a win, right? Other players should also check to make sure they did or didn't get XP.

Yes who ever wants to spend exp do so before the initative roll.

5 XP was gained for the winners

and

10 XP for the losers of the matches

I for my part will still bank my exp up.

I'm trying to finish it up tonight

I am finding it jarring to RP both sides of the conversation, finding this round hard to get into. I'm probably going to get beaten though, I care too much about fluff and banter.

I'll try to do some RP I'm back to work today so I can think about it during downtime.

@TheShard quick question: you didn't wrote it down, but I guess you also bought: Soresu technique (10)

And there is no Defensive circle for 20 points that should be the "Defensive stance" Talent.

And I Guess you also bought the both Grit (10) and the Defensive Stance (5) ? But here I am not sure since I am afb and I don't know the starting stats for drall out of my head ^^.

Please state wich variation of gand you choosed (lungs or no lungs)

looking forward to see your weapons and armors please put them on the sheet too.

Did it list me as gand? Should be drall.

I'll fix that tonight.

Trying to type on swsheets with mobile is a nightmare

Oh man my Read-Fu is totally fussy it seems, yeah there it is Drall... everything fine! I'm just dumb, that's all!

Once you put in the weapons and armor we can start our little match!

Ooooo, another glowstick for my fine collection! Though in all seriousness armourer and source hadn't occurred to me. Do you think it's worth the mix?

Well it is quite the Defensive build, thanks to defensive stance he can ramp up the difficulty for the attacker (two upgrades for 2 strain can be quite usefull espacially against lets say a gunslinger at short range who'll get to roll agains RP) that combine with reflect/ parry and the improved versions can do quite a trick
while the armorer helps him to beef up his own soak and defense, especially since he won't have an to mighty armor because of the great amount of money his LS will need.

It can be a quite effective build, but his strain controll could easy become his own great advasery activate def.stance on full power and reflect in the same round will already cost 5 strain (even more if the enemy hits with double attacks )

alot will be depending on the outcome of the LS modding.

Given the ammount of strain-dependent buffs that people use, wouldn't a stun guy (stun weapons and buffs) be quite effective in those combats?

If you can get around the general limitations of stun weapons being shorter ranged, then yeah that might work. But there's a good few PCs with solid strain mitigation/recovery options as well, so for them it'd probably just be a matter of switching up tactics.

well of course those can be quite effective, just take a look at Arena C where the little P0NG-0 "killed of" his enemy with just Stun grenades.

At the same time it can be a gamble, if the enemy rolls enought advantages or if he has some means to relief the strain it can be use less to use a strain weapon (especially when you can't crit with it which often tips the balance of a fight),

If you utilize the Armorer to mod your equipment, then yes it could be worth it.

In our seminal PvP duel, @DaverWattra and I agreed not to mod anything, and then I went and played an Armorer anyway, so there were a lot of talents that went to waste :) And my Imbue Item talent was just plain useless, the way the dice went. But even so, the Armor Master talents were amazing in conjunction with my Cortosis armor (made possible with the Tinkerer talent). If I'd had a decent strain recovery option, I might have had a chance ;) were I to do it again, I think I'd have dropped Imbue Item and picked up some Ebb/Flow Force power action.

Ok so I'm ready.

What's the ic reason for 5 conflict?

I am Sir Drez'n Bercilak The green knight of Corellia!

What defense rulls are we playing by?

I assumed defense from armor and weapons attack. However devs are unclear on this.

Think we are doing highest def only. @TheShard

I think we ruled that equipment stacks with cover, but not with itself. So for example, cortosis shield + shield gauntlet only results in ranged defense 2, but you could take cover with your shield gauntlet equipped for ranged defense 3.

This is a simple take on the completely divergent rulings we've gotten from the devs.

Do I have that right, @Richardbuxton @Nightone?

I actually can't remember, sorry. My gut says we went with Cover "grants" defence therefore doesn't stack with gear. It may be buried in the original post

It's taken me a little while to think about this. I feel like b.) is what we should do although I'm happy to go with c.) too

I think a.) is something to test out before using it, with a Cortosis Shield, Pewered Armour and Improved Armour Master you can hit 5 Defense and still have room for a Saber with a cheap crystal or Training emitter and a heavy pistol... and Sense with 2 upgrades to the attack! That's great, but perhaps swings the combat far in favour of defence which leads to a much longer encounter.

With option b.) a character can choose the highest source of Ranged defence, melee defense and Soak, which usually means 2's across the board with a Shield and Laminate (or Chitin)

Ok so we go with EotE ruling of "defensive" not incresing the overall rating, instead of the F&D "defensive" does increase the overall rating.

Sad for my shield build, will have to discard it hence a shield in this ruling won't do anything but adding encumberance.

Highste source only no stacking of sources (no cover Bonus for people that already have a defense rating!

Ui concussive 2 on the LS nice, and frightening... This match has a high chance to be decided in the first round!

Somehow I like this little green furball knight ^^

And for future events: please Write down in Orokos which mods you are atempting to make. with only "LS Mod 1" "LS Mod 2" you could decide after your rolls wihich ones worked and which ones failed.
