Sorry About The Mess: A PvP Tournament

I'll take one as referee. Do I just pick one?

Also are we using the same arenas/threads that were already in use the first round? And same terrain?

I can stick around as referee in Arena D, if that's kosher.

Ok Away is ref for arena D.

yes reuse the same threads.

no, all random elements of the fight should be rerolled

I'd love to GM an arena, but just moved into a new home without stable wifi yet. If that changes before the four arenas are spoken for, I'll let y'all know. :)

I again will gladly take on the spot of a refree. B or C? Where shall I look at?

Go C this time thank you.

Since I lost my first match, the base post said I'd gain a Scar talent. How do we determine this?

I don't think we had agreed on a list yet.

Also does B still need a ref? If so I can do it.

Will Matt be our Ref in A again?

I know that was suggested at some point in the earlier discussions, but I don't believe it was included in the official tournament rules. @Richardbuxton I'm not missing anything, am I?

Imperial has B. Nightone has C. Away has D.

if Matt wants to referee then he can

I'll have to reread it, my memory says we decided it would be for another tournament and that a specific list would be required.

The Championship will consist of 2 stages. First a series of Heats, probably 4 or 5 rounds of Heats, where everyone fights a single fight per Heat. The winner of each fight earns a point, the looser gains a Scar Talent from an as yet undecided list . After the Heats have been fought the top 8 (16 if there are a lot of characters) will take part in an Elimination Finals 1st v 8th, 2nd v 7th, 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th. The winners progress (1/8v4/5, 2/7v3/6)until there's only 1 left who becomes Champion.

Well, there it is folks. Apparently we need a list of not over the top scar talents. Dam I thought I had taken that out.

I started flicking through the scar talent section to remind myself what it was all about and start building a basic list, I don't think I can do it! Seriously it's not easy since I lost my fight I actually stand to benefit from this.

I have not looked at every talent tree, but my first thought is "you may choose one talent valued at 5xp from any official Specialisation"

Can others smarter and with less of a vested interest check if that's too much? Toughened and Grit are going to be in there, but is there anything supremely game breaking?

I'll ref on A. I'm not sure your idea works. One talent in that list off the top of my head is precision strike

Ok, well in the very first career I look at, bounty hunter, the Martial Artist has Precision Strike for 5xp. That's too powerful I think.

Snap!

What about "any 5xp talent in a Specialisation your character has, this can be a previously purchased talent"

That was my first thought too.

But some popular talents in addition to Precision Strike would be Resist Disarm and Rapid Reaction, and that's just in the Core Books. Those talents give an incredible edge in PvP. I'm not sure about all the expansions, I don't have them to hand.

I might expand it to "Any 5 XP talent inside your career...?" Especially because a lot of us are going to have purchased all those 5 XP talents already :)

In career could be interesting, im not sure how op that is without checking every character. But yes, my thought was that if you already have the talent then it's not too overpowered to have 1 more rank.

Alternately, here's a start to a proposed list:

Grit, Toughened, Quick Strike, Resolve, Second Wind, Uncanny Reactions, Uncanny Senses, Swift, Stimpack Specialization...

I'm on the fence about Parry, Reflect, Quick Draw, and Jump Up.

I think your idea of keeping within career is better. It gives everyone a theme to work with. Some will benefit more than others for sure (Bounty Huners, Hired Guns and Soldiers) but everyone will have unique opinions.

Swift, Uncanny Reactions and others would be far more popular and powerful. Swift would have potentially completely changed the outcome of my first fight.

I guess my thoughts on those were that they are situational. They won't apply to every fight.

But I can also see them being big game-changers :)
