Your Desired Future Expansions (Lets be positive on the future of Descent)

By Truckerpunk, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm going to try and keep moral up here. hahaha.

What would you like to see them do if and when they release another Descent 2nd Edition expansion?

Personally, I loved the Runebound Sands of Al-Kalim expansion as well as the Frozen Wastes Runebound and Tomb of Ice 1st Edition Descent expansions. It would be awesome to see Descent 2E taken to those parts of Terrinoth. There is so much potential with the different elements of both heat/sand and cold/snow. I mean we have some of the of the heroes and monsters from both elements. Come on FFG, who releases a Yeti hero and then skips the snow!

I'd love to see a RtL app campaign that took us to Al-Kalim so our heroes could "forge their own entry in the Ninety-Nine Tales of Al-Kalim" to quote from the Sands expansion. Being stuck in the blazing heat or facing a crazy line of sight hindering sand storm while trying to adventure could really make for cool mechanics on an adventure with some developing.

What do you think? What would you love to see them announce at GenCon for a Descent expansion?

Desert& ancient ruins or Mountain/snow themed big box expansion.

If there was a snow expansion, it could have these:

Viking warrior: Basically a berserker with ice magic

A healer w/ familiar

Stormcaller: Mage with storm-themed magic

Arctic Wanderer: some kind of scout

I know there's barghests and hellhounds already, but there could be a wolf pack

Bears

1x1 ice dragon (not to overlap with the ice wyrm)

???

A trap/event/servant OL class where you use the environment to wear down the heroes.

That's what I'd like to see in a snow expansion.

Well, ideas are countless, but 3 things come right now to mind:

1) snow; 2)desert; 3) oriental. Descent lacks these 3 things, and you can imagine the possibilities!

I'm all for an arctic expansion too!

I even thought up a new condition that would be interesting.

Chilled: You cannot spend stamina voluntarily. Discard this condition card at the end of your turn if you have moved into another space during your activation.

I would love inflicting such a condition! Would pair really well with Immobilize roo. Only problem with it is that it does nothing on figures that do not have stamina.

That's a cool idea for a condition. Especially if there's different terrain.

(like deep snow, for instance. I can personally attest that walking through 2-3 feet of snow is hard.)

And not to leave ice wyrms/wendigos out, quests could have special rules like "each monster with the cold trait gains surge: Chill."

or something.

1) Snow

2) Underwater Cave

3) Sea/ Island

4) Desert

Desert and Snow for me too!!! :D Yes please.

For the flip sides of the tiles, Desert could have dungeons based upon the interior of pyramids, while Snow could have ice-cave networks.

I want the following:

1) A hero collection with the remaining 12 heroes and maybe some hybrid classes. We have had content more or less purely for the overlord, so this should be fine as well.

2) A small box expansion with a healer and a mage and some more exotic location like ice and snow, desert environments or a tropical jungle, with monsters that fit the theme and an interesting new overlord class, maybe one focused more on persistent boni like the enchanter.

3) A final big box expansion with a seafaring campaign, adding the remaining hybrid classes and possibly experimenting with some interesting permutations to the base system that, unlike the tainted cards, can be used with more of the existing content.

Exactly my thoughts. :)

I thought of this the other day. My condition was called "Freezing" Not as epic as yours. ^_^

Monster List:

Uthurk(?): Why do BL & RW get them, but not Descent?

Goblin Skirmishers: We have Archers & Witchers, but no Melee?!? They could have Poison as long as they don't roll X.

Goblin Spears: Reach

Scorpions: Reach, Immobilize, Poison

Mummies: Shambling, Grab, Curse, Doom, Terrify

Barbarians: 2 Master, 4/5 Minions. Abilities could be a mashup of Beastman/Hybrid Sentinal (Minus Flying & Fire Breath).

Werewolves !!!

A barghest-mounted goblin archer! It could come in a H&M, and could behave differently based on if you kill the archer or barghest first.

Though more than anything I would like a brand new app-campaign for each of the physical expansions already in existence :)

Forgot one:

Vampires: They could have a Life Drain similar to Sorcery (Converting Range X to Heal X). Also they could have a special Condition called Vampirism, when a Hero is infected they add 1 Red Die to their attack pool, but can only regain Health by attacking Heroes (Converting Range X to Heal X). Failure to do so will allow the OL to control the Hero for the next round. Vampirism can only be cured at the end of both Encounters. You can not regain Health from other Heroes suffering from Vampirism.

There is also a lot of material that they could pull from that's in the Descent 1E Sea of Blood expansion and the Islands of Dread expansion for Runebound.

They could easily come up with a campain addition to the RtL app and have a expansion that brought the ships and islands material to Descent that you could use in both the app and classic play.

For monsters alone just the Runebound Islands of Dread expansion there are Merfolk, Dread Pirates, Sea Dragons, Sea Stallions, Giant Roc's, Coral Golems, , And Guardians of the Deep. There is even a cast of ships Captians that they can tap for character ideas.

Literally more potential then you could list just by using material that is already there. That would be awesome!

All of this ^^ Please FFG

Yeah with Captains/ Lieutenants and there own Ships would be amazing! And with Island Creatures like Giant Snakes and Crabs or Killing Gulls! Search the greatest Treasure ever or rescue the Castaways! The potential is endless!

Great idea, indeed ! Love it !

I don't much care about the theme / monsters / etc. All I really want are interesting hero characters and most of all, for them to finish the hybrid classes.

In fact, I'd willingly pay $100 tomorrow for a tiny expansion that just finished off all the hybrid classes. I'd probably die happy.

I think there should definitely be a Woodland expansion...with a dreaming theme maybe... with some wild monsters and treeguards. It could be a nice box to fill with the missing healer and mage. One of them should definitely be a DRUID or SHAMAN.. a healer? ..a mage?.. what do you think. Could be another hybrid.

I'd also love an idea of 3rd party in the game. An NPC or more, not friendly with the Heros nor Overlord. Maybe there would occur a situation where a good strategy would be to 'join forces' in order to complete your objective... like in every fantasy world :D Of course, you'd never know if you can trust the Overlord on this :D It could also add some psychology in the game, tricks, deceiving.. honour/dishonour...... your blood and teeth on the board. And more good stuff!

We've been given: Disciple, Spirit Seeker, Prophet. Where's the Priest (Or Bishop, just so I can shout "The Bishop!" ;) )? It could be a more offensive Healer Class with an ability card that targets Monsters with the Cursed Trait. I could see your idea for the Druid Class being a Scout/Mage Hybrid Class, The Shaman Class you mentioned could definitely be a Mage/Healer Class, I was thinking of a Paladin for the Warrior/Healer.

My bad. Just saw that there's a Custom Hybrid Class called Paladin

tonight, I actually had a dream about reading that they announced there will be 2 more box expansions...

Looking forward to going to bed even more now
