Did this kid ever get named? Revenge of the Sith

By KungFuFerret, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Ok so, I didn't really care for RotS, but, like Rogue 1, there was a single character that ended up actually getting an emotional reaction out of me, and it was a nameless extra with only 1 scene.

The kid at the end of this clip of the O66 Purge.

Was he ever named? Because I remembered seeing this scene, and actually feeling an emotion that wasn't negative, for what felt like the first time in the movie run. I remember thinking "ah! maybe this is some EU character that was established as surviving, and this is his quick scene to confirm 'yep, he did live, and this is how" I remember instantly rooting for this little kid to survive and escape, and then they killed him.

Now, I know how the average, rabid Star Wars fan is, about finding out every tidbit of information, or fabricating it whole cloth if it's not been published. So, did that kid ever get named at all? Officially I mean. They have entire writeups for characters who had 1 scene, sitting in the council chamber, saying nothing, but just being background variety, so I'd like to think they'd give a kid with an entire action scene, some kind of development.

Anyone know if he was ever fleshed out?

Yeah, he's Zett Jukassa . Actually played by George Lucas's son!

Cool, had an idea for a character background, that loosely tied into his, wanted to know if I had to make him up entirely, or just mention him.

Thanks.

Pretty much every background character in the movies got named and given a backstory.

That's what I figured, but I don't deep dive into the lore of Star Wars much. I find a lot of it tiresome and tedious. I assumed somebody had done a writeup on him, but wasn't sure where to find that, since I had no idea what his name was canonically. I just knew him as "cool 1st year Padawan who almost made it out of the Purge" from episode 3. :D

You know he might have actually survived that.

Well yeah, I mean if Darth Maul can survive:

1. Being cut in half

2. Falling down Mandatory Issue Bottomless Pit

Then a kid can survive a blaster shot to the back.

However the wiki does say that his body was burned with all the others on the steps of the Temple so....*shrugs*.

But it doesn't matter to my idea anyway, as it would be for someone who knew Zett, not being Zett himself.

Yeah. He's dead Jim. You grab his Datapad, I'll grab his wallet. :D

His wallet's at the bottom of a pit, I'm not going down there, YOU go down there!

No I wasn't quoting CD 2, though it wouldn't surprise me if the line is similar. I was just channeling the trope of two lackies arguing with each other about dealing with a possibly dead (but maybe not) threat.

Unlikely. When Organa flies away you see the trooper in the background ensuring, that the kid really is dead.

But what if he was distracting the Clonetrooper from other survivors?

They were so busy fighting him noone asked how the heck did he get that far across the bridge in the first place!!!?

Lucas's son being named Jett Lucas.

Proving once again we're probably lucky Lord flannel sold out. Otherwise instead of Rey we'd probably be looking at Iggy Azalea as Assbutt McAussie.

I still submit the Darth Maul Excuse for any such type of death. If HE can survive being cut in half, and dropped down a bottomless pit, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility in the Star Wars verse, that a kid could survive a single blaster shot to the back.

Personally, for my own character concept, him being dead is preferable, but I wouldn't bad an eyelash at anyone who decided to say he survived.

"He put himself into a Force Coma, masking his vital signs as a last ditch effort to survive."

"He crawled away from the corpse pile before they set him on fire, able to slip into a small shaft due to his tiny size. "

And, for the Monty Python fan in me "He got better." :P

To be fair, Iggy Azalea sounds pretty star wars to me :P

Assbut might work for the non-english speaking audience still :P

Heck, there is a character named Savage Oppress, and that's apparently ok. Might as well call the person "Mean Bully"

Yeah, Star Wars names have not always been the best or most creative of things. And as much as I appreciate and enjoy puns, some of the ones that have cropped up in Star Wars names are fairly cringe-worthy.

Though I think it's been said that at one point during the filming of the prequels Lucas was letting his kids come up with names, with some of the more atrocious ones being thought up by his son.

I actually like the idea of an Axe Cop kind of creative process for Star Wars. Personally I don't mind if they have silly names, as I fully appreciate that the stuff was mostly made with a children audience in mind. So it being simplistic and a little silly is perfectly fine. I think that's one reason why it's endured as long as it has. The original story was a very simple, straightforward Hero's Journey tale. Very clearly defined players, easily identified factions, and a tale so ingrained in our culture, that it's pretty much atavistic at this point. I mean heck, my own experience with the OT is one of the few memories I have as a child. I remember seeing RotJ in the theater, and being blown away at the crowds reaction when Luke first ignited his lightsaber on the skiff.

So having really OTT characters, with names that are easy to remember (you know, aside from the really weird names that you can't pronounce), is fine by me. I'm still going to laugh at them, and make fun of them sometimes like...*snerks* Savage Oppress :D :D :D "I am Savage Oppress, and this is my cousin Brutal Authority. And that is my niece Unpleasant Hall Monitor! Fear us for we are fearsome!!"

I enjoyed ANH at the Cinema (after queuing up a couple of times - the bad old days before booking)!

And you can't just say silly names are for children's movies. James Bond movies have LOADS!

I didn't say that silly names are exclusive to children's movies, but they ARE in them. One does not exclude the other.

And if my dad made Star Wars, I would have been bugging since Day One to be in the movie(s). Non-stop. Since 1977.

Names never heard in movies aren't meant for the public, anyway. They're a reference for the people working on the movie, and often silly on purpose.

Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Tatooine, Alderaan, Tarkin, Anakin... those are all great names. What do I care that some background extra is named after someone's cousin or whatever.

Considering some of the bizarre real life names I've seen in my line of work, someone naming their kid Jett Lucas, doesn't even cause a blip on my radar. Jett is an actual name, while maybe not a common name, people have been named it through history, so it's hardly bizarre.

And really, I suspect a lot of the Star Wars names only sound "weird' or "silly" to an English speaking culture. Other cultures, it likely sounds quite normal to have that many consonants in a row, and have them structure in a way that makes the name sound unlike the spelling. I suspect people from African, or Middle Eastern cultures, hardly bat an eyelash at the pronunciation of some of these names. Like, Ima-Gun-Di. That straight up sounds (at least the way I pronounce it), like some kind of African style name. It's actually pretty close to a co-worker I used to work with, and he was from....Nairobi I think? Or was it Uganda? Eh, can't remember. My point, is the names aren't all that weird if you really look at the variety of naming conventions that humans use. :)

Yeah, that is probably a a big factor. I grew up bilingual, and learned English in school. It takes a lot for me to groan at a fictional name.
