Munitions failsafe and illicit tokens

By XWING_N00B, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I wanna field a z-95/hot shot blaster swarm in epic with jabba to provide illicit tokens. I was thinking about putting Munitions Failsafe on the Z's so that if they blank out with hot shot blaster, they won't lose the upgrade. Was curious, would MF prevent me from spending an illicit token on a failed attack as well? Based on the wording, I'm leaning towards 'yes'.

Yeah. The illicit token does something when you're about to discard the weapon, but Munitions Failsafe kicks in earlier than that and prevents the discard from ever beginning.

You are also assuming Jabba allows you to spend Illicit tokens on other ships. Errata in 5...4...3... :P

Thanks!

Honestly, its totally ridiculous to me that anyone could have an interpretation of Jabba OTHER than allowing illicit tokens to be spent on other ships....a 5 point, 2 crew upgrade that only helps the hounds tooth....riiiiiiight.

That interpretation is strictly Rules as Written. I was just poking fun at FFG for writing another card that doesn't work as intended because the rules. They have a pattern of this going back all the way to the original Core Set. Poor old Night Beast. It took a second Core Set and a new Rules Reference to get his ability to work as intended. Jabba is lucky, he'll probably just get fixed in the next FAQ.

Actually no errata neccessary. If you read the rules insert that came with the C-ROC when it gets to the Illicit tokens it tells you that Jabba's card tells you how to use them. So the text on his card for the discard is a base mechanic for the tokens similar to a bomb token reference card.

That also means that yes the tokens still work after Jabba's ship is destroyed.

I'm not calling you out specifically jmswood, you're just the one who posted in this thread, but I just have say: so it turns out that mildly confusing card text aside reading the actual rule book shows the card functions EXACTLY the way it's OBVIOUSLY supposed to work even with RAW.

I bet they still at least put a clarification in the FAQ though.

@sharrrp The problem with rule sheets and reference cards is not everyone has access to them. I didn't buy a C-ROC, and the Rule insert is not available for download from FFG. I have the same complaint about the VCX-100. I don't own one, so I don't have the rule insert. I've never met anyone who played with that ship have enough courtesy to bring their rule insert so an opponent could reference it. I had several VCX matchups against different opponents before I accidentally ran across the Phantom undocking rules on this forum. Unfortunately that means I learned too little to late that some of the players I encountered cheated and didn't deal damage to the Attack Shuttle when I destroyed the Ghost. I expect that there will be similar grievances with the C-ROC and Jabba as a dispicable minority of players will exploit their opponents' ignorance.

Whether or not an errata is necessary for Jabba, FFG is failing some players by not digitally publishing all the rules a player might encounter. All the rules are supposed to be "Open Information" as described in the FAQ. FFG is not supporting their own "Open Information" rule if Rule Inserts or reference cards are only available to people that buy the expansions.
