Boba Nym

By DXCrazytrain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I know Dengar is the more obvious choice as Nym's wingman but what do you think of Bombing Boba?

Scurrg H-6 Bomber: · Captain Nym (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
· Bomblet Generator (3)
· Havoc (0)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
· "Genius" (0)
Firespray-31: · Boba Fett (39)
Expertise (4)
Ion Cannon (3)
Proximity Mines (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
· Cad Bane (2)
· Slave I (0)
Cluster Mines (4)
Extra Munitions (2)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

I don't see the purpose of the Ion Cannon. I'd rather have a set of Cruise Missiles on the Firespray, which I think are especially fun on Boba, as there is no longer an optimal range for your opponent's opening engagement.

I also don't think AB turret and AC on a small base ship is worth the points. Put it into FCS and a better turret, and you'll enjoy better results. As a bomber, you don't really want to have another reason for ships to stay far away from you, after all.

ABT on Nym, with or without AC, looks to be great because of his Barrel Roll. Between Bomblet Generator and ABT, Nym will command a wide array of area denial possibilities. There's an argument for Advanced Sensors on Nym, to guarantee his actions, particularly if he needs to use his Barrel Roll to avoid a bump and thus a missed attack opportunity. Hmm...yeah, I think I just talked myself into AS over AC because with the Bomblet Generator and Genius, you could plunk a bomb down in a whole lot of places.

Advanced Sensors is my theoretical build atm (but I fly Empire, the only faction this hombre snubbed).

My problem with Bomblet AND ABT is more that folks are going to actively stay away from you almost too much at that point. You're putting too many points into covering one area. BR is GREAT for that, you're not wrong... But everyone is already giving you such a wide berth, that you're going to often not be maximizing the use of a whole slew of points there.

You could argue that you use it to push them towards Boba... But, in a two ship list, I'm of the opinion that you need to be shooting as much as humanly possible, and ABT doesn't get you there. And, once Boba is gone, Nym no longer is a true threat for most lists, built specfically like this.

I think all of that is hard to say, definitively, until it's on the table. I can say that I've have proxied Nym with ABT and Bomblets, and he does heavily influence the choices the opponent makes, but that's in a PS10, 3-ship Rebel alpha-strike list.

I flew Nym: VI, Title, AB Turret, Genius, Bomblet, Advance sensors today. My favorite move was to focus or TL do a 3 Tallon and the drop a bomblet bomb. It's a really nice.

I'm drawing a blank on the mechanics here, how did you pull the combo off?

Advanced Sensors let's you perform an action before you reveal your maneuver.

This gets around the whole "stressed-from-a-red-maneuver" thing in regards to getting the Target Lock in before hand.

Genius lets you drop a "before dial is revealed" bomb after completing a maneuver. As it's not an action, it's still fine after a red maneuver.

Nym's ability protects him from suffering the adverse effects of the bomb he dropped very close to himself, while allowing it to damage enemies.

It's pretty gruesome.

EDIT: In case you're looking at Nym's card specifically and unsure how he has AS & Genius, the Title gives him the ability to take a Salvaged Astromech & a System upgrade.

Thanks. I can't wait to get this ship on the table.

I was running Scum Nym with VI, title, Autoblaster, Bomblets, Genius, and FCS at 38 points last night. Autoblaster is great on PS10 Nym because most fragile aces are PS8 or PS9 and they can't get away when he can just barrel roll toward them. Half the time I was dialing in a maneuver to bump them on purpose because it doesn't stop me from using Genius to drop a bomblet and do unblockable damage while they can't shoot me back. More than once I caught a ship with both the bomblet and Autoblaster backed up by TL from FCS dealing 3-4 unblockable damage.

Scum Nym is a terror.

Strangely enough, I had the best like against him with an Aggressor, because it's one of the few Imp ships that can flee in terror and still get shots off.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Both Nym's are terrors. The internet will echo with the cries of "NERF!" before the weekend is over.

I didn't get a ton of practice in vs Nym, but I didn't feel like it was that bad. It's a good ship, but it is avoidable, it doesn't have stupid-dial-syndrome, and its health, while not bad, can absolutely delete pretty fast.

I'd still say it's more fun to fly against than Miranda/K-Wing bombers.

I'm curious to see how the bombing options offered by Genius/Advanced Sensors compares to the K's Advanced Slam. Everyone hated getting Slammed but I think the Sensors will be crazy fun for all.

I too thought about pairing Boba with Nym, and this is what I came up with:

Captain Nym (30), Genius (0), VI (1), Bomblet Generator (3), Cruise Missiles (3), Autoblaster Turret (2), Accuracy Corrector (3) - Total 42

Boba Fett (39), Cad Bane (2), Cluster Mines (4), Ion Bombs (2), Glitterstim (2), EU (4), Cruise Missiles (3), Adaptability (0), Slave One (0), Extra Munitions (2). Total 58

I am fully aware of how stupidly bloated Boba is, but it just looks like too much fun. Scum Boba is a personal favorite of mine and I can't wait to try this out (despite it's absurdity).
