Rey and another big ship...

By c3lb, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys,

I made this list for a friend I play with every now and then. He doesn't own any ships and doesn't play very often.

Rey - Expertise; Bistan; Finn; Title(heroes); Engine Update (61 pt)

Poe(PS8) - Push the limit; Autothrusters, BB-8, Title (39 pt)

He got along with the Falcon pretty well but doesn't like Poe, since he needs good flying, and asked me if I could fit another big ship in for him. I tried to fit a second YT-1300 but just couldn't figure out anything that felt right. So I thought maybe a U-Wing. What do you guys think about:

Cassian - Expertise; Fire-Control System; Dash; Title; Engine Update (39 pt.)

Makes both ships kind of point and shoot, nothing fancy. Maybe every now and then Cassian can remove a stress from Rey.

Cassian is who I've paired with Rey quite a bit. I'm not sold on that layout tho... try this:

Rey (45)
Expertise (4)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Blue Squadron Pathfinder (23)
Fire-Control System (2)
Extra Munitions (2)
Sabine Wren (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Cluster Mines (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Pivot Wing (0)

Total: 100

I have used this after playing with a Uwing Rey combo pretty much since the U-Wing launched. The U-Wing is a bit of a pain to fly because of the below average dial, but with so little reds it's actually not bad and works a lot better with Engine Upgrade. Bombing U-Wing is a neat trick that takes opponents by surprise! It needs to be flown aggressively and to be honest, used as a blocking/decoy like ship so that it dies first.

Rey (45)
Expertise (4)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Blue Squadron Pathfinder (23)
Reinforced Deflectors (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Sabine Wren (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Proximity Mines (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Pivot Wing (0)

This is another version I was thinking of... because the U-Wing actually dies faster than expected, so if we can even get 2-3 more hit points of life out of her and still drop some mines then maybe we could have some fun.

I do think a large base is a good way to go with Rey for a wingman, it's just they are very expensive in comparison to the Scum equivalents.

Good Idea to use the U-Wing as a bomber. Never thought of it since I don't have the Ghost Expansion hence miss all those cards, but it's a nice proxy experiment.

Kanan also works on Rey, right, does it Combo with the title? So do you think stress removal is more important than the crit?

What do you think of my Cassian build, does it work at all?

Your Cassian build would hit hard for sure, Dash is a neat trick that I actually think is a lot of fun. The thing about the U-Wing I find is that people try to get behind it because they think it will be an easy kill. And they are not wrong. The engine upgrade does help get him away faster, but having the surprise bomb coming from a U-Wing really makes them think twice. Often they forget. and its funny when they do!

The stress removal on Rey is huge!

So how the title/Kanan works is: move 3 bank, flip, clear stress with Kanan. If your already stressed you do the 3 bank, clear stress with Kanan, flip, take the stress. It makes Rey very versatile. If you got EU you can 3 bank, flip, clear stress, boost, slap your opponent in the face.

BUT Kanan only works that way if on Rey, not if he is sitting on another ship. (I don't remember the rule wording on this, but it has something to do with the timing of effects).

Yes, Rey with Sloop title begs for Kanan crew, it's honestly phenomenal. Bistan isn't worth it, especially not here.

I enjoy this list:

Rey (59)
VI
Kanan
Finn
Engine Upgrade

Eaden Vrill (41)
Mangler Cannon
Cassian Andor
Smuggling Compartments
Rigged Cargo Chute
Anti-Pursuit Lasers

This list is no as effective as it used to be because of the Dengar/Manroo NERF. To give you 2 extra point you can exchange the Mangler for an ARC Caster. Use Eaden as the blocker and Rey as the flanker. Or Eaden distract the Aces that use stress.

Another one I want to try is (An Aim to Miss):

Rey (58)
Kanan
Finn
Engine Upgrade

Cassian Andor (42)
VI
Accuracy Correctors
Flechette Torpedoes
Gunner
Operations Specialist
Pivot Wing
Munitions Failsafe

The idea here is to have Cassian fire first and take pot shots with the Fletchette Torpedo, then cancelling out the hits with Accuracy Corrector (do not add the two hit results). This sets off a chain of events. First, if your opponent is a hull value of 4 or less, they get stress. Then Munitions Fail Safe kicks in, you don't use the Torp. Then Operations Specialist give a friendly a focus token. Then Gunner chimes in and fires again. If Gunner misses, guess what, the Operation Specialist kicks in again and gives out a focus token. I much prefer Dash over Rey, but they are around the same points. (You can get a 59 point Dash due to lower skill level, so Cassian only needs adaptability over VI) Also, if the opponent's hull is greater than 4, just use your primary weapon, don't bother with the target lock.

My Upsilon Shuttle is in the mail and should be here any day now.

The Ghost is pretty much a "must have" for Kanan and Sabine.

I'm contemplating something different:

DASHING REY

100 points

Dash Rendar (42)
YT-2400 Freighter (36), Push the Limit (3), Flechette Cannon (2), Nien Nunb (1)

Rey (58)
YT-1300 (45), Expertise (4), Finn (5), Kanan Jarrus (3), Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version) (1)

Dash plays like a larger, meatier Poe, doing green straights and barell rolling.

Wow, these lists look like a lot of fun. I still have trouble seeing nice synergies or combos when I build lists myself, especially if they involve synergies between different ships.

@Jadotch: What would your Dash build be in the Aim and Miss case? I definitely want to try this.

Problem with Ghost is, it is pretty much sold out everywhere in Germany. But I would love to try out the ghost as a ship, too.

I like original chewie with rage and inspiring recruit.

Typical Dash Build

Dash (58)

Expertise
Heavy Laser Canon
Rey (Crew)
Outrider Title
Engine Upgrade

Just keep feeding Rey those focus tokens.
