Newbie Deck Construction Feedback

By Jon_DDA, in Star Wars: Destiny

So I'm pretty anti meta in anything I've ever played in that I always do weird things in games. I think this deck is reflective of that. But even so I still think it has some bite.

It's based on my collection as well. I'm not gonna go out and buy a bunch of single cards to make the hyper competitive decks of the current meta.

Let me know what you think please!

Hybrid Aggro Mill. Lots of different control cards, almost entirely yellow to work with Jyns special. You have the ability to burst down a character quick along with the staying power to mitigate and outlast while you mill good cards and rerolls away from your opponent.

Rebel and Millennium Falcon allow you to get multiple uses from the wide variety of cards.

There are also a few ways to get these high cost supports out cheaply or to generate enough resources quickly and pay full price. Quadjumper , multiple Long Con uses, and again Rebel and Millennium Falcon .

Maz's Castle - Takodana was chosen for a couple reasons. It doesn't directly hurt you to not claim it.

With all the supports I don't expect to be claiming much, if your opponent has the cards they want then milling is more effective.

If they play quick then you're left to reroll and do what you want with your dice with which you have many options.

If you do get to claim you just have a better chance to get what you're looking for. With so many different cards this can come in handy"

Ooh, Maz' Castlw can be used against you though to protect their cards when they claim early

It's good that you're basically including nearly the full suite of yellow 1+ cost events, with rebel you have just about every option available to you. Also, did you happen to pull a c-3P0? He can be used to either guarantee the Con Artist special or to turn the Falcon or Launch bay's big sides to discards for the late game. I'd be concerned about the number of high cost supports and upgrades, might be worth it to really hone in on the 1 or 2 that are important to your win condition and swap the rest with more control if you have the cards.

As an aside, it sounds like we have the same exact approach to metas, and eJyn/Commando was my first "real" deck. I tried to build something very similar, where it tries to go for early burst to get a kill then mill. I ran into problems though, Hero Yellow/Red has very few events that can mill (Friends in low places, Commando raid, Close Quarters Assault i think is it, the latter of which does not have any place here) and Jyn is very much an event-driven character so that hurts the deck's win condition significantly. I ended up going instead for a control-heavy aggro deck, using the discards as more of a tool for mitigation and damage, thanks to Ackbar (who I replaced the commando with), than as the win condition. Then Jyn's money savings from the yellow events can be later spent to get bigger guns out early. I combine that with things like rearm and smuggling and you can get the 3-cost red rifles out before you even roll in the first round with resources left over for control.

Maybe swap Uwing for a c3po

One think I noticed is you have lots of 1-of cards. Cutting out some of the fluff cards to double up on most of the other cards will greatly improve consistency, especially with some of those expensive support cards. I know it's hard when you're first starting out sometimes, but it can also be helpful to have a list of what you need and what you would drop for it. Like Electroshock is a 2-of for sure. Plan something to drop for when you get your second copy.

Another Second Chance and Lone Operative might help Jyn stay alive longer in the end game (after Ackbar dies), and also make sure you get one (it stinks if they're stuck on the bottom of your deck). The ultimate play now that Ammo Belt+Second Chance is gone is C-3PO and Millenium Falcon with Second Chance and Rebel. Basically, the Falcon keeps playing Rebel from your discard to play the Second Chance in an endless loop. C-3PO helps it reliably get that special.

I like how many events you have in there! That really helps with Jyn's ability. I might drop Overkill for DH-17 Blaster Pistol though - it's cheaper, and Overkill's blanks and modifiers be extremely frustrating, especially since Ackbar only has one damage side, so your opponent can just target Jyn's dice to effectively mitigate modified ranged damage. And if you're ok risking the modifiers, I think Jetpack is a better deal. Holdout Blaster is also really good.

Also, take the Cargo Hold battlefield. You can move Second Chance to Ackbar to make him harder to kill and then have Second Chance on both characters. In the end game, when you only have Jyn, it's worthless for them (does nothing to you) but you can use it for dice mitigation (since the new RRG says the dice returns to the card when an upgrade moves).

Finally, you gotta have Fast Hands. That way, when Jyn rolls in, you can instantly resolve one of her discard sides.

Good luck! This sounds really fun! Now I want to try this deck out myself!

That is correct Jonas, but instead of out right affecting your game when they claim it just becomes a game of wits. You're not just milling for good cards, activating Ackbars special consistently can really pay off, and you give them limited rerolls.

And Swagon, That was definitely the idea. I had quite a few different cards at first and followed the general idea of having doubles of everything, this seems way more fun and is a "Jack of All Trades" if you will.

I'm looking at my constructed deck and realize I do have 3po in there replacing shoot first.

And I know this is a dumb reason, but part of the reason I kept so many high cost supports was I like the deck thematically. It kind of tells a story.

Also I'm fairly confident that I can either

1. Get one or two out quick and cheap.

2. Discard for rerolls and possibly get back with rebel.

Also I'm betting on Vehicles getting a slight buff in the next expansion. Like a squad tactics type card letting you roll in multiple supports or who knows.

My idea for milling was mostly through dice. Saving events for burst or control. I am still thinking of including cards like commando raid for a burst of discard, but with Jyns dice I don't mind resolving discards. Leaving modified dmg to hopefully accompany the support black damage sides.

Also cheat is something I'm interested in just to get one more use out of something. I like the possible combos and synergies in the 0 and 1 cost range.

I may transition to a more conservative gun style, I bet it is much quicker and bursty. But for now I still have yet to play a game against someone else with it. I want to try this out a few times.

Thanks for the response, I'll post back after some games

Of course, while typing my first response others post, making it look like I ignored so much input.
