Whisper's Prophets

By clanofwolves, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I'm outside the box anyway, so I'm trying this trio out....give me some sanity check please:

Whisper's Prophets

"Whisper” (40)
TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Intelligence Agent (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Sigma Squadron Pilot (30) x 2
TIE Phantom (25), Intelligence Agent (1), Fire-Control System (2), Lightweight Frame (2)

If you're going to fly three Phantoms, that's probably as good as it gets. (Whisper/Echo comparisons aside.)

The only real options I can see:

Stygium Particle Accelerator vs Lightweight Frame.

  • On a decloak turn, Stygium is definitely better - it depends whether you'd (a) plan on recloaking once the fight starts and (b) expect your Sigmas to live long enough to do so.

Three Intelligence Agents

  • Having at least one is probably vital. Two is good.... but do you really need three?
  • Ideal crew for whisper is either Gunner or Rebel Captive, but both are expensive. Agent Kallus is nice, but you shouldn't be short of focus tokens with whisper's ability.

Let me begin by saying that I am strictly a Buzzsaw Whisper player...

But Kallus is a solid option because he allows you to take Evade as the action, then get the focus from your shot.

You'll still probably prefer the double focus on some turns, but there are times when the Evade is worth picking up. And any Focus token you don't have to spend on offense is also good if you're getting shot at multiple times.

Still prefer Gunner, but, on a budget, I wouldn't be sad running Kallus.

Well, my plans are blocking with the cloaked Sigmas if I need to as Whisper does her thing, then post block uncloak the Sigmas and use their 4-5 dice attacks with Intelligence Agent keeping them in good blocking and/or out of arc and Lightweight frame giving them some green boost. If I need to get the Sigmas out to reset an attack, I'll cloak them and run. It has worked in my trial games, but I need to get it in front of a tough player and see how they really run. The triple Intelligence Agents was due to my incessant need to know where the enemy was going, and it's uber-powerful at 1 squad point. And, if you play a two-ship build, you could check one dial twice, haha!

Yes, @ArbitraryNerd, Gunner would be awesome, or Kallus, but I'm at 100 with this squad and I was seeing how Lightweight Frame fared in lieu of the Stygium Particle Accelerators at the same cost as I found that I wasn't cloaking and de-cloaking the Sigmas as their pilot skill kinda killed that idea when they were in the fray, and a lot of times I wished I had that one extra die if I couldn't have two extra ones. It may be a fool errand, but alas, I'm an Imperial Pilot by training, so I'm quite use to using fools gold for jewelry.

I actually thing LWF is the way to go, I wasn't offering any argument there. I love the idea, just don't have the balls to try it out myself. The guns on a Phantom are nothing to sneeze at.

I personally think you'd do yourself a favor to fit Kallus in. I know it's not as pretty, but I'd drop Intel on two Phantoms to get Kallus on Whisper. As she's your end game ship, it makes sense to baby her a bit more.

Then the Intel version becomes the obvious target, kind of... Maybe the Cloak action would have more of a reason to use?

Basically, your list has a pretty equal targeting priority between the Sigmas. If you made one more appealing to shoot than the other, you CAN use that to your advantage.

Symmetry is great for a number of reasons, but I don't think it's the only thing worth trying:

"Whisper” (40)
TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Agent Kallus (2), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Sigma Squadron Pilot (30)
TIE Phantom (25), Intelligence Agent (1), Fire-Control System (2), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Sigma Squadron Pilot (28)
TIE Phantom (25), Fire-Control System (2), Lightweight Frame (2)

(I italicized my changes)
