Critical Hits/Effects Question

By LongLivetheAlliance, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Sorry to bug everyone with this but my gaming partner claims that critical effects don't count as damage.

I am of the firm opinion (and believe the above cited rules are clear) that a card dealt face up counts against the total hull points whereas he claims that a face up card is only counted for the effect printed on the card and not as 1 damage point.

According to him, a roll of CRIT, HIT, HIT equals 2 hits + critical effect, whereas I claim that its 3 hits + effect.

Can I get a quick confirmation so I can show him this before tonight's game? :)

When a ship has damage cards equal to its hull value, it is immediately destroyed.

Faceup damage cards are damage cards. Facedown damage cards are also damage cards.

for reference p. 4 of the RRG 'damage', 3rd dot.

Regarding the die icon issue:

If the attacker and defender are ships, the damage is the sum of all hits* and crit* icons .

RRG p.2 'Attack' Step 5 resolve damage, second dot

*the text uses icons instead of these words so I made the change for easier comprehension. However I added the reference so feel free to check it with your rulebook.

As stated, the rules dont care if a damage card is face up or face down, it’s still a damage card, and the number of damage cards is what counts.

Otherwise, using Boarding Engineers to make the opponents life worse would have them actaually be REPAIRING damage...

Thats some nice Engineers!
