Liberty Vs Home One

By FlyingAnchors, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi all!

I've finally gotten the bug to play some Armada, I am currently a bit burnt out on X-wing at the moment. I've been collecting some ships just for the looks(Nebulon B, Rebels fighter pack 1, and Raider expansions)(I know I still need a core set, so that will add another Nebulon B and CR-90 to my list pool), and am ready to get them off the shelf and onto the board for once. Coming from X-wing I have huge interest in flying Squadrons with stuff like Wedge, Tycho, etc. Since this game focuses on more than fighters, and I'm looking to start rebels, I was wondering which capital ship would be better suited to support a list with the maximum amount of allowed fighter squadrons.

While I plan to get both eventually (having played X-wing alliance I think it would be a shame to not get the liberty at some point) As far as starting out in the game goes, And my desire to fly a ton fighter squadrons in my list, would I be better off with Home one or Liberty?

Home One is better for squadron oriented lists. Although Ackbar isn't squadron supporting commander, ship itself will push more squadrons around and is more durable than Liberty.

Yes Dodonna, Garm or Rieekan make good squadron list commanders and a MC80C with ECM, Boosted Comms, FCTs and maybe Defiance or Adar Tallon is a good load-out for it.

Home One is definitely better in that regard than the Liberty.

However, for the point cost, the best rebel Fighter command probably isn't either. I'd say it's the Assault Frigate, with Gallant Haven and the possibility of flight controllers, or Phoenix Home, which has all sorts of ways to boost your fighters.

That being said, I am having a lot of fun with my Assault MC80 not doing squadron stuff.

If you really want to support squadrons, maybe try buying a bunch of Rebel Transports? They can equip bomber command center, which allows bombers to reroll their dice when attacking ships. And, with the transports all having expanded hangar bays, 3 transport flotillas can command 9 squadrons, which is pretty much a whole fighter/bomber wing. I currently use a fleet with 3 transport flotillas, plus an assault frigate, which commands altogether 7 squadrons(without squadron enhancing upgrades, plus one transport flotilla has Comms Net). You can shoot me a message If you want ideas.

If you do like large ships commanding squadrons, definitely get the home one, which, with the right upgrades, can command 6 squadrons per turn.

The MC80C is your best heavy squadron build. The ship is singularly designed to launch a large alpha-strike on your opponent, while providing a strong anchor to your list.

The MC80A can be played with a larger squadron component than you would bring with a Liberty, but probably not as heavy as you'd bring with the A.

The Liberty generally wants a set of defensive squads, but probably not with the mix that you're describing.
