Zombiefied X-wings. Could they work against Sloane?

I must be missing something. How does Black Squadron get counter 3?

You're right, its 2. I forgot they lost Swarm. (Initially, pre-edit, I had 2... And then corrected it to 3 from memory. I should not have been so hasty)

Just counter 1 + dengar....

D***, since that post came from you I thought you had found some way to boost it to counter 3. Oh well.

Regrettably, I am clearly only Human :)

I find that pairing Dengar and Howlrunner with regular Tie-fighters works better than interceptors. You have more squdrons to lock down the opponent with and they are not as scary to attack so Dengar is actually more safe.

Black Squadron is a nice insurance for a cheap price, I wish we had more of those to deploy.

I would still kill Degar second, I want the TIEs pinned in place not flying around.

Add Soontir Fel for fun.

Why do every single thread in the forum end up discussing imperial combos no matter the title?

i have had problem just using 5 xwings and 4 awings. Use a assauly frig with flight controller turn two i can nail the ties and if a banked or expanded hangers is sending 5 x wings at 5 dice, or four if they have stronghold. Can keep them tied up if not killed.

Sloane is relatively easy to deal with:

- 3 x-wings

- Jan

- 2 a-wings

Keep your fleet screened with the x-wings, and after they've been engaged by the enemy tie force, jump in with the a-wings, and apply flak from a flotilla or two.

I disagree that it's easy to deal with. Howl, Dengar, Soontir, Black, Ciena, and Mauler pushed by Stronghold + FC will rip through those squads. That's 95 points of Imp aces killing 80 points of generic squads. Imps tossing 5/6 dice while you're throwing 3/4 into Scatter aces with obstruction thanks to Stronghold. That also means your flotillas can't attack them. Even without Sloane, that is a tough ball of squads.

I think you need to invest in a stronger squad game to bust Sloane or go with minimal squads. Ten Numb with Yavaris and Toryn. Dutch and Wedge. Shara and Tycho. Maybe an E-Wing. GH and Jan is a great combo too. Ruthless Strategists and Flechette Torps.

I'm not sure what the best way to go about beating Sloane is. Ironically, I think Rieekan might be the best choice with that mixed fighter/bomber force so you can kill squads but also kill ships.

I use those rebel squads as a defensive screen, not offensively. I would never engage that ball as it camps under Stronghold, and if it does, it is no longer threatening my ships, and my screen has worked. Jan is better than you think against Sloane because Sloane can't spend the acc's when attacking the generic x-wings. Those are also all 3 hull squads.

Right, well, that squad ball already won a SC and ripped though fighter screens while taking minimal losses. And I was not flying it.

As everything else it is more about the person pushing the squadrons and ships than anything else. If you bring a decent defense against fighters you can probably do OK with what you bring.

I usually just don't like to over do it too much on either side to give myself options. If all that the opponent have is six squadron aces they will not be able to do THAT much damage against ships, if you can trap them in ship flak and jump them there with your light squadron screen you might perhaps kill half of them in a turn or two before your screen is gone. Now there are only three left in turn three or four and they can do very limited damage after that against ships.

There are many options and not everyone need to be about destroying all the opposing squadrons.
