I agree. All one has to look at is the D&D 3.5/Patherfinder product line and compare it to the D&D 5e product line. Pathfinder has approx. 8x the number of splat/region/career books than D&D5e however, D&D 5e is the more successful product line (general public opinion).
For me, the biggest concern with having so much material, is that it can force members of our community to feel that they have to get everything in order to GM/play the game effectively. Leading to BiS conversations (which I admittedly participate in) becoming more prevalent than then they should be.
With so many resources players and especially new comers can feel over whelmed and confused. Not to mention extremely expensive.
