What should be next?

By Hawktel, in Runewars Miniatures Game

What would you like to see as expansions in the Runewars universe?

Pig riding Tolkien Dwarves

Steam Punk cannon shooting dwarves

Goblins

Orks

Lizard men/Dragon men/ Various Reptile bipedal humanoids

Halfings

Giants/Ogres/various oversized Humanoids.

Arabic type Human faction

Shogunate Samurai faction

A evil human faction

The other Elves (not Latari)/Evil Elves/Dandelion eaters

Other types of men Goatmen, Tigermen, Pigmen, Molemen, Sheep men, Cowmen, Wolfmen, Sheepmen, Marmotmen ectra

Mongol Hordes

Detail your choice below!

Quite frankly if orcs ever become a thing im faction swapping.

I love orcs in almost every iteration (ironically the one i dont like is tolkien ones, they feel like nothing more than *insert evil bad guy name here*'s henchmen with no real character). Can blame Warcraft2 for initially spawning that affection since i played the hell out of that game when i was 6-8 lol

Dwarves, Orcs, Dragonkin, probably in that order

Carrion chariots!

Orcs and Dwarves factions have appeared in Runeage card game by FFG.

The art is already established, The card designs have been completed in that game.

Their heroes also make presence in Descent and Runebound.

As for Mechanics to make them different in Runewars Miniatures Game, the Dwarves can introduce Siege Engines and Orcs bring the game toughness and Rush engagement ability causing panic.

I also hope there will be a Neutral expansion introducing Giants, Harpies, Dragons so each faction can have their own Dragons to fight.

Could totally see the Orcs getting the Protected rule across the board to represent them being a bit resilient.
Or a variant of it. Say Protected X where X is equal to the ranks they got (obviously this army would end up being a very mean and costly army with low numbers if that happened). More orcs, more toughness to get through.

Dwarves and Orcs are on my wishlist.

The best thing I would ever see. Elven Bear Calvary. Elves on giant bears yea.

We have a warmoose, so this HAS to be next.

I would like to see more units for the current four factions. I'd like to see 3 new units beyond the core units for each faction and a cavalry command unit upgrade expansion so that each faction has two heroes, six units, and two upgrade expansions. If possible, I'd even like to see a third hero for each faction. Then I want to see Orcs of the Broken Plains, and Dunwarr Dwarves. Somewhere along the way, I'd like to see large units that are 1x2 or 2x2 in tray size. This would set the stage for a dragon army with multiple large dragon units in addition to standard-sized dragonkin.

I'd like an elf Druid that turns into a bear. She has X stats, until she dials up skill to turn into a bear then has a new set of stats.

Versatile for different opponents. Situations

I want dragon men.

Don't get me wrong I think lizard men are great but I already have a bunch of them and I'm planing on proxying them as a faction. But dragon men are their own kind of awsome.

as far as the game overall I want lots of factions that can ally together.

So for example next year they release four new factions that can all work with one of the old factions. Then a year or two after that they add another four.

This way they can explore lots of looks and factions while maintaining a wide variety of options for the four alliances.

This, this, this ... so very much this!

I'd wager the first 'large' units of that type would end up being dragons in any event ... the Barrow/Crypt Dragon for Waiqar and a Shadow Dragon for Daqan (c/- Baron Zacareth in Descent).

Could be the elf siege hero, I'd go for some Beorn style dudes. Bears need to be siege units though.

@Budgernaut definitely need more units for everything before they throw more at us, otherwise it will feel like perpetual launch and lose early adopters.

Bears!

I want some heavy infantry for the Daqan. A slower version of oathsworn sorta.

While dragons do sound awesome, I worry that adding anything that could fly to the game would be a little wonky for movement and overlapping

Shadow Dragon would be awesome, but I'm thinking Roc Warriors are more likely since they were in the Runewars boardgame as well as Battlelore and Runeage. Maybe one day!

But in general yes, I want to see more development for the 4 announced factions right now.

The occasional new faction (maybe 1 per year) would be fine too though. Orcs and Dwarves are almost certainly the next ones they'll do. We're really starting into unknown territory soon though. We know there will be Darnati, Viper Legions, and the 2nd Uthuk hero announced, but after that it's really anyone's guess. So far, everything announced was mentioned/foreshadowed in the lore guide. Once that stuff releases though, we'll be largely in the unknown areas of where they'll go. Will we get more factions? Will they just stick with these 4 for the near future? How often will releases be once the initial stuff for each faction is released? I'm excited to find out!

Pig Dwarves! Then orks. After seeing the models for the Uthuk I'd be fine with them being canceled to make way for Dwarves as the fourth faction.

What hasn't been said is a Corellian Conflict style campaign box. This would be tailored to the players who want more of the story in their games. The campaign on BattleLore: Command was a lot of fun to explore, so I would hope for something like that. I feel like that's going to be a while because a) we need the armies all caught up to about the same level, and b) I think you'll need a lot more units than I, or many other new players, currently own. But that's definitely something I want to pick up.

As far as units, I am all about those big legendary units: Barrow Wyrms, Siege Golems, Chaos Lords, Forest Guardians. I have always been a fan of the Huge ships in X-wing, and I think these bigger models are going to look fantastic on the table. I don't think they're next, though. I think we'll more than likely get a few other units to increase the diversity of the factions. Maybe infantry knights, longbowmen, or Roc warriors for Daqan Lords; doombringers, old-style Grotesques with a new name, and Viper legion for Uthuk Y'lllan; Darnati spear/swordsmen, magicians/casters, and ?? for elves; and barghests, bone horrors, banshees, vampire warriors, werewolves, and armored death knight infantry units for Waiqar the Undying. ...what? Clearly the undead is the coolest and most diverse faction.

Ironbound.

I won't even play them. I just want the models.

Not even with Maro?

Nevermind. I'll play them.

Undead magical constructs of armor and death? Fine, if we have to ;)

My guess: instead of opening new factions they will add more diversity to the existing ones. Which is a good thing in my mind. They can add new factions anytime in a year or two. Orcs and Dwarfs are already in the lore and would make sense. Or a goblin-based 'evil' faction.

Regarding the new units: they already have a lot of undead minis created for the newest expansions of Descent: 2nd Edition.

These come to my mind:

The reanimates are of course already there. Also, the barghests from the base game come to mind as a cavalry option. Just look at the artwork and you know already a lot. I mean: death knights are already anounced and maro is riding on a bone horror (little hint? :D).

I find it much harder to foresee what we will see on the Daqan and Elven. Maybe some sort of siege towers for the daqan which can be mounted with crossbow men and can move? Would open up the possibilities of siege battles.

Finally, I guess they will create at some point neutral units every (or at least some) factions can use. Some sort of mercenaries or neutral targets (for example: bonus points for the player who kills a big dragon or so first)

Guys, I know a few other people have made remarks to this effect but, can we get real for a second, here?

We have two factions right now. By the end of the year we will have the bones of four factions.

Over the next year or few years, those factions will be fleshed out and we *may* see some kind of faction neutral merc units.

Playtesting that much content and maintaining anything like balance is a full time job. Adding a fifth faction well after the fact isn't realistic or sensible.
