Trying to storycraft a warden need help on species

By TheShard, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I have a warden I want to play for shadows in the light pbp, up till now I've assumed he's a wookie, while I like that angle, I'm considering other possibilities before I finish the sw sheet tonight. Thinking a brawn, willpower (or agility in one case).

Thinking of someone with a lot of hatred but trying to be good.

The setting is a captured ithorian herdship being used as slave labor for a mine. I could be a slave, slaver or something else that makes sense.

So current ideas are an escaped slave hiding out in the jungle section of the herdship.

Wookie, Gamorrean or Elom based around coercion and melee.

Brawn/Willpower

Elom might be hanging out in the mines instead of the jungle.

Selonian/Gamorrean either escaped slave or guard which has had a change of heart. Brawl + coercion based with an eye towards a dip in something that gives me a ranged career skill... Aggressor or executor maybe... Agility/willpower spread.

Any opinions suggestions?

Maybe even a young hutt?

Kyuzo are awesome

From the options that you're already thinking about, it seems that your focusing more on the brawn side of things. If that's the case but you want to avoid the 1 in willpower that Wookiees have, there's Trandoshan which could work on different levels, ex-guard, bounty hunter, and probably others that I can't think of right now that would fit in well.

If you wanted to play up the force sensitivity of the warden spec, you could go with Caamasi or Iktotchi, both of which have 3 in Willpower and 2 in Brawn. But it may be less obvious how they ended up there, at least it is to me.

Yeah the only exception would be doing a warden/executioner long term as a selonian with a 4 - 4 agility/willpower spread... Or do 3-3 with brawn/agility and boost agility with enhance and brawn to four with dedication... Or do 4 brawn and boost agility with enhance and get to 4 wisdom with dedication...

I'm looking at big, and hairy.

Trando might be interesting.

What about a Whipid? Long living beings who could easily find themselves in a spot of slavery for a few decades. Big Brawn, with a 2 in Willpower (Cunning is their weakness) and a built in natural weapon. Only 80xp means your best bet is 4 Brawn, 3 Will, 2 Ag/Int/Pres, 1 Cunning with 10xp spare. They are hairy too!

I was really thinking about them too I forgot to add them.

So as I said Kyuzo would be great too, they can leap to get closer when the foe thinks they are safe. Then with 90xp you can have Br 4, Ag 3, Will 3, Int & Cun 2, Prs 1. Honourable warrior species who would have clovocs that train in Brawling for sure. Becoming a slaver is unlikely but fighting against them is possible.

With your Wookiee idea you can even consider keeping the 1 Willpower! With 3 or 4 ranks in Coercion and the talents you have it's a decent pool of dice. Discipline can be important but that's only dependent on your concept and how much you want to be buffed against fear, same for Vigilance too

Any of the Hutt slave races will do, if you plan on Brawl then Id recommend Green Nikto quite simply for their +1 brawl, but more importantly the crit 3. Also perfect for nose dive into martial artist later so that you can get to crit 1 , they start with Brawn 3 / Willpower 2 and a rank in coordination, which also works well with Martial Artist later. Even if you dont plan on Martial Artist the free skill rank is still useful.

Talz are statted in Oggdude's. 3 Brawn, 1 Int.

I'm building more around melee since we have a martial artist

ok i think i'm going selonian or elom, i like how selonians view lying as akin to murder.

So why would a male selonian end up offworld?

do we know anything about elom culture?

Then Red Nikto is a good choice, you get to double up discipline and brawl for free skill ranks and with resilience you can get 2 free ranks of resilience. You will need to buy melee ranks but still it fits the idea of being a slave. Mountain Nikto are good as well as you get a really nice talent for tank types , allowing you to reroll your resilience checks. Ive noticed that working as a Guardian you pick up a lot of hits and ergo a lot of Crits, and being able to recover from them easier is good. Carrying multiple criticals is definitely no fun, and having crits with +30/40+ to the roll is also hard on the PC

Despite their importance, the fertile males were treated scornfully as holding little use beyond breeding and at best as prized breeding stock. In recent years, a rare group had formed amongst the fertile males that attempted to promote breeder rights.

Perhaps exiled for progressive notions concerning men's rights?
