By BellofLostSouls, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey all!

We here at Bell of Lost Souls have just kicked off a new Twitch channel. Today we will be streaming an Armada game featuring Classic Ben from this very forum. We'll be starting at around 5:00 pm CT. You can check us at https://www.twitch.tv/belloflostsouls.

You can check out our webpage for regular Armada, and other tabletop game, coverage at http://www.belloflostsouls.net/

We'll be live in just a few minutes! Looking forward to seeing you all there!

bugger. missed it. will watch the replay!

I've been destroyed at the table by both of those guys. :D

Glad to see some Armada on BoLS.

From talking with them yesterday, we'll probably get one more in during August. Monday is going to be a Star-Wars game regularly, but a lot of that will be devoted to X-Wing.

Review of the time there:

I had a lot of fun. The cameras were set up well to give a view of the participants and an top-down view was super-imposed on it. The mics were set-up really well to pick up the commentary of the players, which we did a lot of. We had a channel moderator that was relaying comments to us in real time that we could interact with. Abe, who I've known since January did a really good job of taking comments that I made that would be intelligible to regular players of Armada and making them more palatable to a wider audience who might be unfamiliar with the game and the strategic goals that it creates within.

I couldn't speak for the composition of the live audience on twitch, whether they were Bell-of-Souls regulars seeing the latest game, or if any of the posts to the local fleet command pages netted a view and comment or two. It gave the impression of some regulars to the broadcast who may have had casual interest in Armada.

I did find a Classic Ben moment long when I got home. I had built the list Sunday, but readjusted it from a HH Scout to a Torpedo on Monday, but then swapped Boarding Engineers for OE by accident, which is what the printed list had and what I'd pulled from my cards before I went. Then I was a little surprised not to find Boarding Engineers in my list of cards when the very card combo I was setting out to test/demonstrate was Garel's Honor/Boarding Engineers/Dodonna, and there's a five minute explanation of that at the beginning of the game. So my apologies ahead of time to anyone who's watching closely and spots this.

A poll to the Armada community. What do you think would be most useful in a broadcast like this?

I went into this on invitation from Abe just do a game of Armada for their audience and I'm not sure either of us had the clearest of plans of how this would play out. I've had some discussion with others that a commentary of what is going on in the players' mind as they make decisions is extremely useful. I think we both went in the direction of adding commentary, but maybe handpicking a couple of popular fleet archetypes and playing them against each other with commentary could be an interesting approach.

Or another way to go at it is, "What is going to do the best to promote the game?"

Do multiple things, which is basically, appease everyone and might be outside of purview for a cast who cover multiple things:

1) Teach. Have basics games labelled as basics and explain as you go.

2) Have casual, interesting, fun, enjoyable games where everyone is clearly having fun.

3) Have the odd semi-hardcore tournament prep solid game where both are out to win and have all their preps in line - have it clear and commented by other tournament players who have easy access to the tabletop for correction/feedback in both directions.

I think you guys should have to drink every time you use a defense token.

That should make the rest of the game very interesting!

The real question is who drinks for Sloane?

Maybe that's just another way to create advantage for Sloan. Force your opponent to drink.

Sloane/Tequilla OP. Nerf plox. Send limes.

I guess that makes the worm the boarding troopers.

It does tend to exacerbate the damage already done.

Will the stream be on YouTube?
