High Risk, High Reward? Strikers?

By lurq, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all, hoping to go to my first store tournament this summer, and would love tips on this list. Started as a Scum player (pre-party bus/jumpmaster, for the record), but I love flying small ships with movement options, so picked up Imperials too. I love flying the Striker, so thought this list would be fun/modestly competitive. It flies pretty well when I've tried it, though it lacks anything that can take a big hit.

(100) "High Risk, High Reward"

(26) TIE-FO - Omega Leader, Juke, Comm Relay

(26) TIE Striker - Duchess, Determination, Ailerons, Lightweight Frame

(25) TIE Striker - Pure Sabacc, Veteran Instincts, Ailerons, Lightweight Frame

(23) TIE Bomber - Deathfire, Cluster Mines, Extra Munitions, Long Range Scanners

One potential change is dropping the Bomber and FO and replacing with an Upsilon (Kylo) with Daredevil, Advanced Sensors, Intelligence Agent, Title, and Engine (with 2 points left for something...). Then I'll have something more tanky that gives out stress, and can turn around in one turn. Advanced Sensors would be very helpful for positioning the shuttle, or Coordinating out to the Strikers.

Open to any feedback/ideas.

Strikers are fun to fly and can hit hard however Deathfire isn't really pulling his weight here other then being an annoyance really. I've run the following similar builds and had fun with them.

Went 2-2 in a tourney with this build. Made some mistakes with the Strikers as this was just after they came out and I hadnt played much with them at all yet.

"Countdown" (20) -Stealth Device (3), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
"Duchess" (23) - Expertise (4), Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
"Pure Sabacc" (22) - Veteran Instincts (1), Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) - Fleet Officer (3), Systems Officer (2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), TIE Shuttle (0)

Total: 99

Bomber hands out 2 Focus and a TL while hiding in the back. (Typically Focus to Countdown and Sabacc with the TL to Duchess) Sabacc evades or BR out of arc. Duchess and Countdown can BR or evade. Bomber can also change out Twin ion engines for LWF too.

This gives the Bomber some bite;
"Duchess" (23) - Crack Shot (1), Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
"Pure Sabacc" (22) - Veteran Instincts (1), Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) - Extra Munitions (2), Homing Missiles (5), Cluster Mines (4), Long-Range Scanners (00
Omega Squadron Pilot (17) - Crack Shot (1), Targeting Synchronizer (3), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Total: 100

Duchess and Sabacc can chase other ships while Bomber and F/O can homing missile something else. F/O ensures the bomber has a TL even if its in too close for LRS.

And similar to the first one but with OL instead of Countdown;
"Omega Leader" (21) - Juke (2), Comm Relay (3)
"Duchess" (23) - Crack Shot (1), Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
"Pure Sabacc" (22) - Veteran Instincts (1), Lightweight Frame (2), Adaptive Ailerons (0)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) - Fleet Officer (3), Systems Officer (2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), TIE Shuttle (0)

Total: 99

I flew the three named strikers and Jendon Lambda shuttle at a store championship and went 2-2. Last game, time is called, I got tractored onto a rock and rolled a hit to die, otherwise I would have won and been 3-1. I 100-0 a tie swarm in my first match. the strikers are awesome at repositioning. Someone else won a store champ with three named strikers and Palpmobile, and another won with three strikers and adv sensors Hux lambda. So...strikers can win.

You have OL and Deathfire instead of Lambda and countdown. This is actually not bad, as nobody likes bombs nor Pure Sabaac and they have to choose one to go after. This actually makes OL the third threat in the list which is good. Not sure why you have determination on Duchess. VI is basically glued to her. She is AWESOME moving last. The bombs from deathfire kind of fill holes in the list, and clog holes on the map! Strikers are maneuverable enough so you can clog the lanes for Dengar Tel coming up on the left, or make the map smaller for Dash. Its rare Deathfire gets both bombs off in a game, so using one strategically wouldnt be a bad idea.

I think its like you said "modestly" competitive. Wont win worlds, but you can make a good showing at a store champs or something.

I've heard of people using the three named strikers with Darth Vader in a shuttle, as well.

Cool - thanks! Super helpful.

VI on Duchess = great call; I like the TIE Shuttle options for added action economy too. A doom shuttle or Palpmobile is intriguing, but they are so hard to fly well...

Of course, I picked up a TIE Aggressor, so... who knows, more list craft to consider...
