Rebel Cells (Before the Alliance?)

By Nate, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

One element for a Star Wars campaign that I find intriguing is having the PCs be part of an insurgent cell on a specific planet, doing what they can locally before becoming connected with the greater Rebel Alliance. This brought up a question: What are examples of such cells from the established canon or Legends?

Here are two that came to mind for me:

  • The Lothal cell from Rebels .
  • Saw Gerrera's insurgents on Jedha.
  • Bail Organa and his allies.
  • Rahm Kota's partisans.

Can anyone think of others?

I am currently in a similar process in out campaign.

The players are members of the alliance, who were sent to build a cell that can join the alliance in an outer rim sector. It involves quite the same antics you see in early rebel cells, but you have the benefit of sometimes escaping the mission mold via alliance missions.

Ahsoka Tano's resistance movement on Raada comes to mind, but apart from that, you've named the main ones.

I remember in WEG that the Tierfon Yellow Aces were a Starfighter rebel squad active from very early.

The Free Ryloth Movement with Cham Syndulla.

The Commenor Underground with Arhul Nemo.

Atrivis Resistance Group

Garm bel Iblis led the Corellian Resistance

Mon Mothma led the Chandrilan Resistance

Bail Organa led the Alderaan resistance.

Sian Tevv led the Sullustan resistance.

Jensar So-Billes led the Duros resistance.

Kota's Militia.

Don't forget Cracken's resistance on Commenor which grew so strong that in Legends the local moff gave up on holding the planet

You're very welcome!?

There's a discussion thread on this new release in the Edge of the Empire forum which I only found after posting here!?

Hell Yes! :)

This new sourcebook will go a long way in helping me create my SW campaign, set 10 years before the Battle of Yavin.

Thrawn introduced Nightswan's faction.

As to why an AoR sourcebook is being discussed in a EoE forum, I have no clue; but it is strangely appropriate. :)

It's not an AoR sourcebook; it's not particular to any of the three lines.

If you look at the title, it simply reads "Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion." No Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, or Force and Destiny tag.

Rebel Rising, the young-adult reader book about Jyn Erso's life inbetween the beginning scene of Rogue One and the rest of the film, mentions several people that were leaders or members of various Rebel Cells that knew Saw Gerrara but didn't necessarily work for him. He also had people coming in and out all the time, staying with him or doing jobs, etc...

Lot of material to use in that book!

Mostly because the Edge forums are the main ones, the ones that get all the traffic. If I have a question regardless of which line it comes from, I'll post it there for the most eyes.

The news article (top of page) has it tagged as " 11 July 2017 | Star Wars: Age of Rebellion ".

The bottom of that article states: " Participate in grim and gritty adventures on the fringes of the Star Wars universe with Star Wars ®: Edge of the Empire™ . Edge of the Empire is a complete standalone roleplay system that transports players to some of the shadiest locations in the Outer Rim, the underbelly of the Core Worlds, and everywhere else in-between!" and links to the EoE forums.

The actual product page is listed as " https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/star-wars-age-of-rebellion/ " .

That mixed messages is what I was referring to. :)

Also working on a campaign along a similar theme - a planet that is under Imperial occupation starts fighting back and the PC's are sent to make contact with the nascent cell and, shockingly, I know, get pulled into a series of wacky adventures along the way. It's just after the destruction of the Death Star and the Empire is in momentary disarray and the PC's have to help the population seize on that.

Thanks for the recommendation, GroggyGolem. I have that one on my list to read, but I should push it up in priority.

On a related tangent, the new cannon early rebellion cells has some groups using the A-Wing and B-Wings in an earlier time than that shown in the legends timelines.

Has anyone already posted something of what starships and starfighters are used by the early rebellion resistances groups from the new cannon timeline that might reasonably show up in the new Dawn of Rebellion sourcebook?

Are the A wings in Rebels the ones with hyperdrives? Because if not, that is in accordance with Legends.

One of the other early groups are the Wookiee’s. They and the Corellians etc etc (the ones already mentioned) form the Alliance from their planetary cells.

Believe they're shown dropping out of and jumping into hyperspace unassisted for strike runs, so would seem they have hyperdrives.
