At the printer: 7/3/2017

By Mon no Oni, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I'm not sure if this has been already noticed, but a change has happened in the status of the L5R Core set, according to the Upcoming section of the site. The game is "At the printer", since exactly a week ago. What this means for an expected release date (GenCon aside) I don't know.

I'm not sure it tells us much about the time table because sometimes those transitions seem sort of arbitrary on the "Upcoming" page, but it does tell us that it's being printed now which means they won't be altering the card text anymore. I know we saw some cards change since they starting spoiling stuff for the game.

Basically means every card is designed and finalized. You could tell early on that a lot of card images were for presentation purposes but were not fully designed to the extent of full play quality (Such as Defend the Wall not having an element in its reveal).

It also means that they are indeed going to have enough product at Gencon (although this was not really a concern anymore since they have been hyping it for Gencon so extensively. It was a concern back in April though.)

As for its release to the entire world, I don't know that this gives any additional information. It's slated for an October-November release and I don't think printing in July in preparation for Gencon has any bearing on that timeline.

We'll see how long after Gencon it takes them to start printing again and we'll probably get a good understanding of how late the release will be based on that timeline.

I wonder how much fan excitement FFG loses out on by not having a release closer to the GenCon launch. People definitely get frustrated by having to wait several months between releases.

Sense I didn't get any tickets to L5R tourneys I am not going to Gencon. Hopefully the release to game stores will be quick. Either way for me I'll be waiting for a person with a full set to scan it in for me and everyone else waiting to make a full set of proxies while we wait. Cause no matter how long we wait it isn't like FFG is going to miss out on my money.

Every LCG releases like this with advanced copies at Gencon. I don't think it will kill enthusiasm. It's gonna burn to wait though, and any delay will be excruciating. I can't go to Gencon this years so I've got no chance of snagging an early core set. One would hope they have a decent gauge of interest based on advanced ticket sales at Gen Con. Aside from just waiting for the initial (post-Gencon) release LCG core sets also tend to sell out really quickly when they hit retail. I would prepare to be patient unfortunately.

I'm sure it's a decent amount. It happened a bit when GoT 2.0 launched. The bigger hit is going to be when stores run out of Core Sets in the first 2 weeks and FFG doesn't have the next print run lined up until after Christmas.

Yeah that one is a community killer >.>

Don't worry too much about the time between Gencon and final release - all cards and rules will be spoiled by then, and there is no shame with playing 100% proxy until real release

I hope we get more regular updates for the location of the game.

Ooh, can I get a text message when it's finally delivered to my local store? Then I'll know to go bug the store owner until he either unboxes the product or has me bodily thrown from the premises!

...you're just looking for an excuse to join in, right? Wouldn't that just delay shipment even longer?

Unfourtunately, I myself am stuck in the backend of corn country. My 'FLGS" is Miniature market, Noble Knight, or Amazon.

FFG is MN but the printer is in China if remember correctly. So if it got from the printer to the water cooler in 2 days, thats a water cooler and breakroom in China.... Dear god I finally figured out what starts the war in the Fallout series. Larry and Craig not shipping L5R from China.

Considering my lack of card skillz, I'm a safer choice than some:P

I thought FFG games hit Amazon on time with brick and mortar stores.

A word of warning. The last few LCGs didn't ship enough to meet the Amazon preorder demand on their core set first printings. So a lot of people who preordered on Amazon had to wait for a second printing before their preorders shipped. I noticed that both on the Conquest release and the Arkham Horror TCG release. Not sure where the fault lies there, but Amazon usually takes preorders well after most other online gaming stores have closed their preorders. Dedicated online gaming outlets like CSI or mini mart seem to be much more reliable at meeting their demand and closing preorders when they reach their limit. Of course then you can't take advantage of Prime shipping but I also noticed Amazon's price is usually full retail while MM and CSI give you a bit of a discount to offset shipping.

I'll probably go to MM first.

At my location, 'standard' shipping only takes 2 days from MM.
