Couple of us who were demo-ing games for Asmodee at Dice Tower Con in Orlando Florida this weekend, decided to have a huge huge epic game of X-Wing after we got done working! Rules were: Put as many ships as you want on to the board.

The board was realllly big.

Love Epic.

Best format.

It's too bad you couldn't go 2x2 with the mats. It makes for an even better battle zone

We could have... I just though it might be hard for people to reach their ships that way. Maybe next time.

I'm short (and thus there are those with a better arm reach), but as I was trying to figure out the largest sized board I could use for fantasy medieval miniatures battles about 15 years ago, I realized most people could reasonably reach 3' into a play area. Granted, at some point they might need to walk around to get to the far side, but they could always access the middle from one side or another. Fast forward to now, and I can perfectly slap 4 XWM playmats on top of that old 6x6 piece of green plywood. . . creepy.
