The Banshee (Custom Card)

By Astech, in X-Wing

I like the shadowcaster a lot. Most people praise its mobile arc and less-than-JM5K efficiency. I like the synergy within the pack's upgrades - literally everything in the pack is useful. It also ties together a lot of references to the clone wars and rebels. However, they missed an opportunity - Asajj Ventress flew a shadowcaster named the Banshee. The Banshee was focused on serious speed, so I'm wanting to make a custom Title card for it. Something along the lines of:

Banshee (Title, 3 Points) - Thus making the Banshee the fastest ship in the game.
Action: perform a free [SLAM] action. Then assign one stress token to your ship.

Or:

Banshee (Title, 3 Points) - This is a speed boost - and an opportunity to equip autothrusters, but more importantly it shifts Asajj's focus from a tank to an arc-dodger.
Your action bar gains the [boost] action. After you perform a [boost] action you may rotate your mobile firing arc.

Banshee didn't have SLAM, which is a technology from the Expanded Universe. The ship is fast enough. Lancer has the fastest dial of any large ship; which is despicable when you consider that makes it faster than the Falcon. Factor in the extra distance a large base covers compared to a small base. If you exclude repositioning options, then the Lancer is already the fastest ship in the game. It doesn't deserve a built-in Engine Upgrade.

The thing that made Banshee truly special in Dark Disciple was a cloaking device.

Banshee (title, 4 points) Lancer Only. Your ship's action bar gains the [Cloak] icon. While cloaked, your agility is increased by 1 instead of 2. When you decloak, you must use the 1-straight template instead of the 2-straight template.

probably a better idea, But Instead of saying, ' you must use the 1-straight template instead of the 2-straight template', say, 'you must use the 1-straight template instead of the 2-straight template, treat your ship as if it were a small base ship.' this prevents the template from being sideways, like normal large ship barrel rolls.

The problem with "treat your ship as if it were a small base ship" is people could use that to argue that an opponent wouldn't get half points for damage. That makes the ship a cloaking points fort.

I don't see anything wrong with requiring the same barrel roll as other large base ships. The large base barrel roll was changed for a reason. The length of the 1-straight template places the opposite edge of the ship moves 3 small base widths from its original position. The distance is 2.5 base widths if the ship follows normal large ship barrel roll rules. That's the same distance as a range increment, and more than enough to slip out of firing arcs in many situations.

Yes, but A decloak says to perform a barrel roll, and on a large ship barrel rolls (regardless of the speed of the manoeuvre template used) have the template sideways. What I was trying to say was that when you perform a large ship decloak, you need to use the template in the same orientation as if it were a small ship, otherwise there is no advantage over just a barrel roll. I think this is what you were meaning also, so I was trying to word it in a way where this would be the case, But I don't think I wrote it very well.

Action: perform a free SLAM action just plain doesn't work. You can't SLAM as a free action.

You'd have to phrase it 'add SLAM to your action bar. After you execute a SLAM action, assign one stress token to your ship'.

The second one is almost certainly broken. Assaj with Autothrusters AND free mobile arc movement AND boost for less cost than Engine Upgrade? Lol.

The SLAM one's probably OK if you write it correctly. It gives a huge amount of flexibility for where the arc can go, but at the cost of not shooting and having to do very fast moves to stay unstressed.
