modifying ship stands

By Baltanok, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

So, apparently one of the stands for my AFM has gone walkabout. Since they have their own special stand, I can't just use one of the jillion other stands I have.

Mels Miniatures offers many basic replacement ship stands, but apparently not the special AFM bent stand.

Any thoughts on how to replicate a new stand? I'm thinking of taking one of the taller stands, cutting it in two places, and regluing it with a pair of bends.

Not sure if the plastic is malleable enough, but would it be worth boiling/baking and trying to bend a regular schmedium one?

not a bad idea. I'll give it a shot unless someone speaks up to tell me its a bad idea...

I have a spare AF2 stand. Will swap it for a VSD style stand if you like.

well, good news! the missing stand was hiding in a pile of command dials... but thanks for the offer!

remove the silly underside superstructure (comes out easily) and not only will the ship look tons better but you can now use any stand

You can use a medium or large stand. My AF stand broke at the bottom notch so I use an MC80 one now. It is offset from the center of the base but it works.
