Twin Troopers: They Truly are Vader's Finest

By dietz057, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

The other potential opportunity cost of running Vader's finest is if you're Cross-Training Troopers to up your Spy-Count. Maybe not big in the current meta but Imperial Spies have proven to be very effective up until Jabba's Realm's release and could return to prominence with the right support.

Thanks for your article thought. Good stuff.

It was a good read, appreciate the post. I've tried running an Imperial hunter list to utilize the new Jabba cards. It was alright, but can't hold up against the meta right now. It was fun using hunter cards with the Inquisitor, it seemed like people forgot he was a hunter.

BT helps too, between hunter and self-focusing it goes a little way to overcome the focus deficiency for imperials.

Temp alliance, weequay and greedo gave some help. Unfortunately, just seems like the imperial lists right now are trying to hard to force the synergy that Scum is getting naturally.

I've also considered it in the eJets. The only way I can figure out how to get value from the focus is to find a way to reactivate the group. Focus both figures, then use change of plans or focus both and then use New Orders.

The movement will be particularly useful for the jets, and that in itself might make it worth the 2 cost. Consider it with Overrun, where you can still get an attack in while moving 8 spaces.

I've also considered it for Terro; it's definitely too expensive and wouldn't hold up in the current meta, but it does enable a kind of guerrilla strategy to help him stay on the board for longer where you can get 10 movement to pop in and out of cover and still attack! Only use the flamethrower if it's really advantageous or if it's the last activation and you have initiative next round. The focus is also nice since he has two great surges and it increases the probability of one shotting a Weequay from 14% to 65%.

The best brief summary of Vader's Finest: it's actually a pretty good upgrade, and worth considering for a list--at 1 point. If only it hadn't come out in the early "let's choose costs using an RNG" waves, it could have been a really interesting option.

yeah really enjoyed the article. Keep them coming, man. My first thought was what about Terro and the Dewback riders. Obviously attaching to a single figure isn't ideal, especially for the cost, but it does seem that they might get the most utility out of it. I'm definitely going to try them out.

the dewbacks are still limited in movement even with the MOUNTED rules. That big chasis just slows them down.

I went with targeting computer after trying VF with the jet troopers, mainly because 1. you save points, 2. I can roll 4 individual surges on 4 dice multiple times during a game. Your guys don't last long no matter how much movement they have if they continually whiff their rolls. It's like having your opponent roll Dodge 4-5 times in a row. You just can't come back from it. There aren't enough cards in the deck to help with this (most allow 1 reroll and aren't Imperial friendly anyway and there is only one Critical Strike and it's a pretty iffy card to take anyway as it only effects 1 figure. There are better trooper cards than covering fire as well)
