Can Obi-Wan/Rey work?

By Stu35, in Star Wars: Destiny

I love Obiwan, I'd say he's my favourite character.

To that end I've been playing a lot with eObi/Rey casually, with a view to putting something together that might get me a few more wins than losses at tournaments. Without much success. Mostly this is because I suck as a player, but I also can't seem to get the build right. Not expecting to win anything, but being able to scrape a positive win/loss ratio once in a while would be nice.

Here's what I'm working off at the moment:

Characters
eObiwan
Rey

Battlefield
Moisture Farm

Upgrades
Force Speed x 2
Vibroknife x 2
One With the Force x 2
Force Illusion x 2
Lightsaber x 2
Lukes Lightsaber x 2

Events
My Ally is the Force x 2
Swiftness x 2
Use the Force x 2
Return of the Jedi x 1
Trust your Instincts x 1
Overconfidence x 2
Deflect x 2
Guard x 2
Heroism x 2

Supports
It Binds all Things x 2

Personally I think it's light on control, but I'm not sure what to take out and put in, Overconfidence helps against Poe/Maz and Palpatine, as does Heroism . Return of the Jedi and Trust your instincts I've tinkered with taking one out for 2 of the other(or just dropping both with Caution being a solid contender for swapping Reys usually useless dice for 3 shields on Obiwan), but always find myself wanting either the extra card draw or needing an event back. Swiftness when combined with Use the Force is pretty awesome but maybe a bit inconsistent - although swiftness combined with an upgrade on Rey is also useful so I'm reluctant to drop it.

On paper I honestly feel like I shouldn't be getting hammered quite so much as I am in casual play, so maybe I'm just an awful player who's victories have only ever come from the easy-mode play of Vader/Raider (although I did manage a Q1 kit win with Dooku/Kylo, although I think that was just a lucky day).

Anyway... Thoughts? General discussion on Old Ben and the fact that Hero Blue seems to get the short end of the stick (or that might just be me feeling that)?

Obi/Rey is my favorite deck right now! I won a tournament with it a couple weeks back, and I tested it against PoeMaz yesterday and won 2/3 games!

This was my deck a while back:

Swiftness is great. What I really like is the combo of Swiftness and Force Illusion on round 1, played on Rey. Then Rey has great defense and gets two free actions. Making Force Speed ambush is super useful as well!

This deck is a hidden gem in my opinion. I can't believe it has no place in the meta - the good players (and the more committed players who can afford to buy enough cards to collect ObiWan) are probably just too scared to try it.

May the Force be with you, fellow ObiWan enthusiast!

Also, if you ever want Obi Wan's Lightsaber in real life, I 3D printed a really wicked one off of Thingiverse! Just saying.

It´s quite good with Obis native 2 Focus and My Ally imho. Better odds of geting that 2x3 damage in one card action than foe Luke. Drawback is the 1 Melee vs Lukes 2.

I've played a quite few games with Obi-Rey, and I think you need Determination in there (Won a few games with that alone as the nail in the coffin). I'm also a fan of Force throw and now, the Light bow (especially with determination in hand). I've tried All-in, but I've never been able to consistently get it to work. Also, I only use 1 x OWTF.I managed to get a 3rd in a low-key SC recently playing Obi-Rey, but the event participants' decks didn't match the current meta. Definitely include MAITF though, especially after the rule change, which may have improved several results for me in previous games. Personally, I like Obi-wan with Rey better than Luke, purely because of the focus.

I've only lost 1 game to Vader Raider out of about 6 to 8. Palpatine results are OK (but can't recollect at the moment). Ranged based decks are somewhat lower. Mill/Crimelord decks are a pain in the ****. Played Poe Maz once and lost, but everything aligned for them - rule change would be very different.

I also plan on using the cargohold battlefield to potentially mitigate the opponent's upgrade dice every turn (recent rule change again). Usually, I finish pretty quickly with Rey onboard.
