Any players in Manchester, UK?

By mfairhu1, in X-Wing Organized Play

Any players near Manchester?

I've got a small collection from all three factions (mainly the older waves) and am looking for opponents to play and learn from.

I know fanboy3 in the centre of Manchester run nights, but I imagine the standard there will be too high for someone inexperienced like me (mainly been collecting the ships more than playing them).

Check out the UK Facebook group - someone will be able to point you in the direction of a local gaming group or store. And definitely don't be afraid to give fanboy3 a go - honestly, the X-Wing scene is very sociable and friendly, and you learn so much about the game by playing in organised events.

Element Games in Stockport, Harlequins in Preston and IQ Games in Huddersfield also run regular X-Wing events and gaming nights and are a friendly crowd - might be a bit far to travel for an evening, but not so bad for a Saturday or Sunday event.

Cheers mate, I'll have a look into all of that!

Harlequins in Preston is probably closest to me - is it worth giving them a ring?

Yeah, drop them a line. It's a fun group there, I usually go through to their events myself. They do regular X-Wing sessions on Tuesday nights for beginners and veterans alike, and usually run at least one full day weekend tournament a month.

They have all their upcoming events listed on their Facebook page

Great, pal. Thanks for the info and hopefully see you down there.

I'll be the one with the ancient collection of ships struggling over rules and tactics! :)

I'll be visiting from the states early next month. looking for players in the Harpenden area.

If Preston is in travelling distance how about Warrington? We're just starting to get a group together at a new store. We're trying to keep it casual for now and haven't get a fixed day yet. We've been playing Epic, Team Epic, standard play and HotAC over the last month.

I live in Bolton so it's a bit of a trek to Warrington on a weeknight after work, but the weekend would be no problem.

Sounds fun though what you've been doing so I'm interested - not had the chance to play anything other than one on one dogfights.

Must warn you that I'm a beginner who has mainly been collecting the older original trilogy ships (although I've got a few Scum ships too).

If you have the patience for that then great!

Hi mate,

I wasn't too sure where Harpenden even was! Turns out it's in Hertfordshire near St Albans which is too far for us northern English to get to and quite a way from Manchester (assuming you're from the U.S.)

Might be worth starting a new thread appealing for players in that part of the UK - I'm sure there'd be loads of people down there willing to help you out.

Cool. This Saturday is quiet as a couple of us I can't make it (in fact it might only be me!). I have no problem going through a couple of 100 point games so you can have a refresher. I'll bring an original trilogy list (Imperial) so we'll have some flavoured fun but if we have time for a second game I'll be itching to play the TIE Aggressor as I should be collecting it this week!

Okay great, what time on Saturday, mate?

Never played at a store before - what should I bring?

Was thinking of bringing everything to be honest just in case.

Plenty of room under the tables to store your kit so brings what you like. Store opens 10am if you want we can start then till mid afternoon? Drinks are available but bring any other refreshments! Car park is quite busy but you'll usually get a space. Store is at the top of the stairs. I think I can PM on here so I'll send you my mobile number just in case.

Cheers fella

Fanboy 3 standard is not very high as they've only just really got X-Wing going properly, it's the right place to start. The Element Games crowd is hardcore but the Fanboy group is very variable - most of the good players at Fanboy are the ones who also go to Element.

To hook into the local people search Facebook for Stockport X-Wing and Fanboy 3 X-Wing. There's play pretty much every day of the week at one location or another.

Also unless you're also Dreadai on Slack I know another guy in Bolton who's playing and trying to hook up with groups. I'm in north Manchester and not a long drive from Bolton.

Alright great, I'm not Dreadai on Slack so that makes three of us around the local area (me, you and that other guy).

Thanks for the info on fanboy3, I bought a few of my ships from them and perhaps should give them a try. I'm a novice at the game so I was a bit reluctant not to waste people's time. Also driving and parking in central Manchester is a bit of a pain.

I noticed there used to be a Bolton and Bury X Wing listing on the web, but it seems to have gone the way of Alderaan (so to speak).

There is a Bolton & Bury gaming club but when I got in touch with them they're mostly 40k and weren't really doing X-Wing.

Definitely don't be afraid of the Fanboy lot, even the more experienced players like me will be happy to help you out. And you're close enough to Harlequins in Preston, who are another lot to get in touch with.

Basically the more you get your contact info into the more you'll find that's going on! I'll let Dreadai know you're looking around :-)

Hello ... SOTL pointed me here, (Dreadai from slack) there is a small group of mates in Bolton, we play in each other's houses for now. All pretty new to it, most of us started playing in March this year. A few of us travel to Element games in Stockport irregularly too. I'm sure we can hook up and play games too.

Great mate - I'd really appreciate that.
