Anyone around him would be invincible, as any firepower you have is wasted killing the dead guy...
With the Changes though, now you're going to have to decide wether that Ace gets protected, or wether you save Rieekan's effect for a Ship this turn.
That does directly impact the survivability of rebel squadrons.
Not trying to say he is wrong or incorrect, but i mean a non rieekan escort has the same effect as a rieekan'ed escort. Its just that IMO if the group of squadrons only has the one escort that has been rieekan'ed and no other escort, then surely the opposition would of recognised this and deployed his squadrons appropriately? If there are multiple escorts then you can shoot at one of them instead.
(Im sure someone can come up with a situation i havent considered, i dont know everything -_-)
My opinion has always been that rieekan is a threat extendet, not an immortality device, because at the end of the round, whatever happens, if rieekans ability has effected something, then that something is destroyed, only now you cannot guarantee that you are safe from a counterattack.
And besides, not all the firepower you have to use against the rieekan escort is useless, there are at least a couple of uniques such as on the rebel side ten numb who can use what their dice rolls to their advantage, even if that is a unique case
(haha puns... I'll leave now)
Yes rieekan in specific circumstances and fleets can be annoying, but when you know what those circumstances are you can try and plan around them, something expected when playing such a strategic game as armada, IMO thats part of the fun of the game whether you win or lose.
