Krennic and Imperial Discipline

By sharrrp, in Star Wars: Destiny

Had this come up last night, Imperial Discipline says you can remove it to change either a character or upgrade die of the attached character. So the question is, can you use it on Krennic's Death Trooper die?

It's definitely not an upgrade but you could argue that it could be considered "one of Krennic's character dice". We decided to say yes ID can affect the DT die since we had to make a call but were definitely unsure. Is there a ruling on this? Or at least a consensus?

I don't think it's a character die, per the current rules:

(quote)

CHARACTER DIE

A character die is a die that matches a character.

Upgrade dice are not character dice, even though characters also use them when they activate.

(end quote)

And it comes from Krennic's ability, not an upgrade.

So in my opinion, it's not a legal target for this ability.

That being said, I'm pretty sure when they say "character or upgrade die" on a character, they mean to restrict other characters' dice and supports' dice, and they want it to work on any of Krennic's dice, so I could see this getting errata'ed or at least FAQ'ed.

I've been wondering about this too, since there's a lot more than ID at stake here. For instance, if I roll in Krennic and then he is killed, do I remove the DT die or not? Same question regarding cards such as Decisive Blow and Now I am the Master, to name a few.

I've been playing it that a deathtrooper die is a character die. Not one of Krennics character dice, but a deathtrooper character die...

It matches a character per the rules, just not one that's in play.

Happy to be proven wrong tho.

I guess maybe you're right that it's a character dice, because it does match a character . That's weird. Too bad the RRG's entry about Krennic just talks about you having to own the dice to use it, which I feel is beyond obvious...

Typo

DT's die is a character die. It matches a character, just not one that is actually in play, but that doesn't matter.

But it wont work with ID, since it turns "one of this character's character or upgrade dice". DT's die is not Krennic's character or upgrade die. It is another character die.

It is a character die. It is just a weird situation when a die is in play without related card (but its not unique - look Ace in a Hole, same situation).

But even more weird situation occurs when DT die is in a pool and Krennic dies. Since a die is removed when corresponding card leaves play DT is not removed until resolved or removed otherwise, but here comes the fun part - after it is removed or resolved, normally Krennic handles what happens to that die - it is set aside, but while Krennic is no longer in play the die should try to go back to DT character in play and bum! ruleswise the game just got blue screened as there is no handler to set it aside and no character to come back to, it hovers in some crazy resolved-die-limbo for the rest of the game :D
