page 172 makes it sound like they use special rules for sorcerers... I don't have diciples of the dark gods and don't want to buy any dark heresy books but i am disappointed that these rules are not available to me and my rogue trader group... can anyone shed any light on this subject for me?

In general they function just like psykers with a lot more words, hand waving, and time. If you just give the sorcerers a psi score, and make them take an extra half action to cast their "spells". Psykers who are Sorcerers have an addition 1 or 2 to their psi score if they use sorcery instead of doing a normal psyker technique.

Basically sorcery is how someone who wasn't born a psyker gets access to psychic abilities. But sorcery is much harder and comes with more risk.

People have given you the gist of sorcery, without actually providing the mechanics thereof. It works like Psychic Powers but with greater manifesting times and more arcane hand gestures/components/whatever, and each use has the potential for Corruption. Psykers with sorcery gain a bonus to their Psy Rating. Want more info beyond the gist and your own creativity in developing appropriate Sorceries? Buy the books, support the hobby.
