Old School X-Wing

By BanthaFather, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

So, I have the Rebel Transport coming in today, and I want some cool t-65 lists to play around with. Here's what I've come up with so far:

"Hobbie" Klivian (28) X-Wing (25), R2-D6 (1), Integrated Astromech (0), Expert Handling (2)

Luke Skywalker (38) X-Wing (28), R2-D2 (4), Expertise (4), Vectored Thrusters (2)

“Dutch” Vander (34) Y-Wing (23), R5-K6 (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), Hull Upgrade (3)

Hoping for some nice action economy. Stole the Luke build from another guy, and am really curious about it. Took the idea, and tried to apply it to Hobbie as well--giving the t-65 a barrel roll seems like a really great idea. Dutch does Dutch things.

Try Targeting Astromech on Hobbie. He can K-turn and get Target Lock/Focus indefinitely.

I've run that same build on Luke. It works great when paired with another threat to draw some attention off him.

Hull looks like a mod for the sake of a mod on Dutch. I would do a Bomb Loadout. For the same points you get Thermal Detonator, which is a great anti-mindlink tool.

Those are excellent suggestions. Thanks, man! Gonna try that out asap.

You could also do vectored thrusters. Y-wing's aren't exactly known for mobility. And some re-positioning can help alot.

Vectored Thrusters are only useful for Dutch on a round he doesn't need to Target Lock. For mobility and synergy in one package, you could try R7-T1.

Sounds like a great idea.

I'm struggling to get new people into the game who are only really familiar with the original trilogy.

It's difficult to explain that Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker aren't automatically the best pilots in the game etc etc!

Got the ship and cards--looking things over has got some new gears turning, and I'd like to see if I can cram Luke, Wes, and Garvin into the same list, ideally finding a way to get them all a barrel roll or boost.

Can it be done?

Okay, here's what I have so far:

Garven Dreis: Veteran Instincts, R2-D6, Integrated Astromech

Wes Janson: Expert Handling, R2 Astromech, Integrated Astromech

Luke Skywalker: Expertise, R2-D2, Vectored Thrusters

Thats 98 points--enough room to swap out Garven's IA with VT, but I need him doing focus actions, and I need him alive to help Wes out. But without the barrel roll will Garven be able to keep up?

Hmm...

Okay, made some changes and took it to a store. I'm pleased to say that it did very well.

Here's the new list:

Garven Dreis: Veteran Instincts, R2-D6, Integrated Astromech

Wes Janson: Predetor, R3-A2, Integrated Astromech

Luke Skywalker: Expertise, R2-D2, Vectored Thrusters

faced a swarm list--two strikers, Mauler Mithel, Backstabber, Wampa, and Scourge. Apart from Adaptive Ailerons on the PS3 strikers, the list was naked. It cleaned out the guy that went up against it before me, I was pretty apprehensive about facing off against it with three x wings.

I made sure that the rocks choked up a good portion of the map, and made him come to me. He had to swerve to avoid hitting all the obstacles, and I managed to avoid a lot of his arcs.

Luke didn't use his barrel roll much, but when he did, it made a big difference.

Wes was an obvious first target because of his shenanigans, which was nice, because that meant that Garven could do his thing.

Running the x wings at the same pilot skill was amazing. It meant that Wes could strip the right tokens at the right time, and that Garven could pass focus where he needed to do so.

I'm still looking for suggestions, but I'm very happy with this combination of pilots.

What do you guys think?
