Cloak distance

By ovinomanc3r, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Probably a stupid question due to over think things:

When cloak says up to distance 1 does it means at distance 1 as maximum or within distance 1 as maximum?

I think the first buy I would like to know cause, if not, I won't give them even a try <_<

Clearer title

I would say the 2nd... as in cloak is a 'free' move at speed 1

from the Learn to play booklet - The squadron cannot be placed with any portion of its base beyond the distance band matching the squadron’s speed.

Not it is not. That is the thing. Note the difference between cloak (or FCT or Squall) and Chirpy.

It doesn't say you may move at speed 1 even engaged.

It is not worded like strategic either. But here the point of reference is what is moving, unlike strategic.

On the other hand, Grav Shift Reroute moves things within distance 2 of its current location, not up to (what is intended from within) but obstacles are not squadrons.

I have not previous case (I didn't play FCT yet) but what I am sure is that 1, here, is not speed, cause it is not worded that way.

I know why you are saying this. What I say is that both things are not necessarily equivalent. Move up to distance 1 is not the same that move at speed 1.

Think on Squall. A squadron at distance 1 of Ketsu but not engaged could still move up to distance 2 (whatever it means) cause it is not moving at speed 2 (speed reduction is not possible cause no speed involved).

That is my reasoning to avoid squadron movement section of the rules.

Speed and distance are not the same thing.

You may be onto something here, even if it is nothing more than a bad wording.

Something along the lines of the original Sato spoiler(wasn't really spoiled, I know), where the wording used terminology that hadn't been defined.

I think its within 1

From the RRG page 12:

Quote

2 . Move Squadron: Pick up the squadron and position it anywhere along the center of the ruler up to the line that marks the end of the distance band matching the squadron’s speed value. The squadron’s base cannot be placed beyond that line. Then remove the range ruler and place the squadron in the final position.

They just used the same wording (up to) for cloak as they used for the squadron movement.
It just is a bit unusual compared the wording within and at they are normally using.

Cloak is basically a speed 1 squadron movement.

Aka typically written as 'within' 1, which is how I've also been playing it (this did come up the other day though).
