Should I re-base my monster figures?

By General Zodd, in Mansions of Madness

Looking for thoughts from those who may have already considered this option, or just gone ahead and done it. I have the old first edition game and expansions, with fully painted figures. I'm about to pick up the 2nd edition, and am thinking about storage for all those figures! The thing that takes most of the space in many cases is the huge base for holding the token. I have recently re-based my Imperial Assault figures on clear plastic bases, and am really pleased with the result. I'm considering them for MoM because, firstly, it helps with the storage as they're smaller, and I wouldn't have to wince every time I put a brown sand and flock covered base on an internal board space!

However, I don't know, not having played the 2nd Ed, how much of a pain having the tokens separate to the monsters would be. It would help if I wanted to swap between 1st and 2nd Ed games, not having to pull the tokens out of very tight bases! But I don't know how often I'm likely to want to play 1st Ed missions.

So, any thoughts? If you considered it and decided not to, what convinced you? If you've done it, do you regret it? Thanks for any help you can offer!

I've (barely) started painting my minis (2nd ed & all expansions). I really don't like the original bases, so I've bought a heap of clear, round, acrylic bases to mount them to when they're painted.

From what I've read, nobody regrets ditching the original bases & using clear ones.

Not sure about having them removable though as I'll be gluing the minis to the bases.

I used clear bases on all my miniatures, except the real big ones that don't need any base. Very easy process, but the investigators are a pain. I had a couple investigators who lost the tip of one of their feet trying to cut it off the original base. Still glad I did it though, and would do it again.

Glad you like it! I'm sure the investigators won't be any more annoying than the AT-ST for Imperial Assault... But how do you find it for game play? Is it awkward having the monster tokens separate to the figures?

By removable, I was talking about the tokens. I will absolutely be gluing the figs to their bases if I decide to go down this route! As they won't be able to go into the base, I guess you'd just have them separate as reference, but I don't know how annoying that will be?

The only annoying part is finding the monster token. Other than that, I just place it next to the board for reference. I rarely even need to look at the monster token since the app gives you the most important info. Being able to see the beautiful board underneath the clear bases is the best part.

Thanks @Drjacobs , that's very reassuring! I shall have to order some more clear bases, then!
