Places online to watch an EotE game

By Pollux85, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm thinking of getting into EotE, but I'd like to watch a game first and see people having fun with it to make sure. Ideally a video with newbies together live and not playing online. I've got reservations about the dice system, and want to see how easy it is to just pick up and play, and also want to see how good the adventures FFG prints translate to actual play.

Are there any good videos of playthroughs out there?

I don't know about video, but there are some high-quality audio podcasts out there.

Dice for Brains is a Force and Destiny game involving at least one player new to RPGs entirely and consists of multiple story arcs.

Campaign, from the One Shot podcast network, is a humorous Edge game with only very little use of the system but everyone involved is a joke machine, so it's very fun to listen to.

I know I've seen actual play of the beginner sets on YouTube. Edge and TFA, at least. Try googling Dice Stormers or Nerds and Stuff (along with Star Wars, rpg, Edge, etc).

There is a podcast show called Pencils and Parsecs, you can find it on youtube. They do not follow the rules exactly but that is to help with the speed of the game since.

Well, there are a few videos on youtube concerning this game. I'm actually working on my own campaign (and hoping to film it to help those wanting to get into the game as well).

But for now, here's a vid that explains the basic mechanics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VQq1Ufj4Ik&t=369s

A mix of standard and new players, playing a homebrew game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36GZ9FwR-Is

Dice Stormers playing the campaign that came with the beginners box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_W0IZ5o8ws

I sincerely hope this helps you in anyway.

For the purpose of this question , I would actually recommend against listening to Campaign as an example podcast - don't get me wrong, it's my favourite podcast of any genre and I definitely recommend it to Star Wars fans, whether they're RPGers or not. However, as great as the show is, I don't think it really showcases the mechanics of the game all that well - I think as part of the editing process a lot of the mechanical dice rolling is removed. Add to that the fact that the three main PC players are basically improv comedians (I don't think Kat is, not that she's not funny as well), and I think Campaign will give something of a false impression of how an SW RPG game will run.

Dice for Brains (also mentioned by Stan Fresh) is probably a better bet for a new player, and the guys behind Tales from the Hydian Way (which I do listen to), a general discussion podcast about SW RPG, have created Heroes of the Hydian way (which I have not yet listened to), which is an Actual Play podcast using some of the Age of Rebellion FFG modules as the basis of the story. As I said, I've not listened to it yet, but based on the quality of Tales, I think they both might be worth a listen for different reasons. They're both at thehydianway.com .

Oh, and once you have started playing? Then go back and listen to Campaign, it's awesome. :-)

I don't know if it's exactly what you are looking for but ItmeJP did a Twitch/youtube series running Rebellion and Empire side on alternate weeks. Its highly entertaining if nothing else and helped me with the game as it was going on when i first started playing. Yes they are playing online but they show dice rolls and explain what they mean.

Like I said, Campaign uses the system.very little. But I think it works as an example of what the game can be, though the humorous tone isn't appropriate to every group.
