But my preferred solution would have been to make EM a reference card, and have Jabba and EM both use the same sort of tokens and refer to the card.

For sure! Also, less annoying different kinds of token to sort in individual sections of a plano case or whatever...

I've not even bothered punching them out, there's literally no reason not to use EM tokens for them, and why waste the space on a different sort?

Not a bad idea, personally I just tossed them in with the EM tokens, I probably won't be using Jabba a TON so it's not a big deal to just dig them out when I need them.

So this came up last night, and I apologize if it was already addressed... the ship Jabba is on gets destroyed, are the token now worthless or can they still be spent

They can still be spent. A card itself has no effect while out of play, however, game rules (which never go 'out of play') can refer to them, which the rules in the C-Roc insert do.

So there are permanent rules associated with illicit tokens – just as there is for focus, evade, cloak, and stress tokens – which refer to the card to see how it is used. That card does not need to be in play.

So a player could put Jabba and Azmorigan on the Merchant One, and then turn one swap Jabba for any other crew member with no downside?

Yup - as silly as that sounds, welcome to Epic.

That's kind of the point of Azmorigan. It's also the scenario ffg gave in the Jabba article.

Oh, that means it must be wrong.
