3 Player/Faction Missions?

By The Mighty Boushh, in X-Wing

Hello, I am hoping you guys will be able to help me out with something...

I will be getting together with my brother and dad for an X-Wing weekend soon, we don't manage to meet up very often so tend to make a weekend out of it. We plan on playing missions as we find the games more interesting if there is an objective other than just kill everyone else (although there will be some of those games as well).

The problem is that there are very few 3 player missions, and in the past we have tended to team up so that 2 people work together against a single person. However, we have tended to stick to collecting one faction each as we only play casual games against each other (dad is Empire, brother is Rebel and I am Scum), so it would be good to have missions that include all 3 factions. Between us we have collected pretty much all of the ships available now.

Could anyone suggest any missions, or point me in the direction of any that you have seen?

Thanks.

@Babaganoosh wrote a really good mission for 3 people and posted it to Mission Control. It's called Honor Among Thieves. The Imperials start with the mist points and need to defend some cargo. Rebels can't steal it on their own, so they hire Scum. Together, they have more than Imps and can easily win. Scum, though, want to steal it for themselves. So, at some Scum breaks into their own team and tries to steal it. It makes interesting play because Rebels and Scum don't want to commit their forces first and want their ally to take the brunt of things, but they can't let their ally get too beat up or they are next. It's a cool little balance act to try with 3 players.

Also, Heroes of the Aturi Cluster might be perfect for you. 3 person games with strong missions.

Brilliant, thanks for the tips.

I tried searching Mission Control earlier, but unless you know what you are looking for then it is pretty hard to find specific mission types. I will definitely check those missions out.

As a side note, do you guys run the same lists for missions as you would for a tournament, or do you tailor your list to suit the mission objective? I just wonder because I often look at the Scum builds in the forums, but never know if they would work for me as I just play casual games.

Personally when it comes to missions I tailor my list to the objectives. Occasionally some of my favourite lists are useful but sometimes the limitations won't allow it. I find it's also pretty useful way to try out new squads and find something that really suits your play style, if it does but is only for say, 70 points, then you can always use it as a base to build a 100pt squad from.

I pick lists for each mission. It all depends on the mission and what is good. Talked someone into trying that mission once and the Scum guy picked a terrible list. It would've been great for a tournament game 3 way fight, but bad for the mission. It was 3 Bro Bots that ended up being terrible for the mission. Imps went very aggressive and wiped them both out. Pick for the mission, for sure.

Often, ships normally "bad" can be fantastic for missions.

Yes, Mission Control needs some tagging or better search functions.

I downloaded the missions, they look like they are gonna be good fun to play, thanks to @heychadwick for pointing me in the right direction, and of course to @Babaganoosh for creating them!

I might try my hand at creating some myself, I have been trying to think of a way to adapt "Jump To Subspace" to a 3 player scenario (mission 9, in the Rebel Aces expansion). I like the idea of Scum using tractor beams to move the escape pod in order to try and steal it, but I'm not sure what the objectives for the Rebels and Empire could be. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Maybe keep the Rebel objective the same, get the Pod off the rebel edge. Not sure about Empire, it could be the same and they have to destroy everything, or maybe give the pod some hull and shield points and they have to destroy that.
