Mats question.

By Steel Town Tough, in Wings of War (WWII)

Can the east/west mats be used for WWII as well? Thanks TS

Can: yes of course. Is it worth it? No, they doesn't really look right for WW2.

I recommend that you buy a mat from here instead: www.hotzmats.com/ , It is a Canadian store that custom make gaming mats.

They have many to choose from and you can order something else on the backside (like water, or maybe the same mat but with hexagons or squares for other wargames). Cheap, customized size and nice guy who owns the place (he is the co-creator of Canvas eagles ).

You can also put a few together if the massive size isn't large enough for you.

IMO, they work fine with both WWI and WWII....persoanl preference really.

Yes, just went to the Fabric store....and it was on sale. I bought the extra wide yrd which is 72" wide.

Yes the planes are Set 1 and some of my own AIR200 models.

Here is a link for making the smoke and fire as well as a great site devoted to Wings of War that you should check out.

HTH,

Here is another good link to how you make nice fire/smoke markers.

Mine are made with small alligator clips, a pipe cleaner (you know that white bendable stuff you use to clean out your pipe with), cotton and glue. Here is a picture on it in action (note that the 1 1/2 Strutter is only ground painted and isn't mine but one of my players, I am the one that shot him however).

There are several ways to make markers, mine took about a minute or 2 to make including the paint-job. We have a smaller version closer to Afilters too that you use 2 hooks for also but I can't seem to find my Wow photobook (those were made by the player that flew that Strutter and not by me however, he also spent a lot of work making trenches).

And yes, it is easy to make your own felt mat if you have an airbrush (one colored only works when you play over ocean and only if you have cardboard islands or something). If not I would go for the hotmatz or a similar thing.
