Technically, the Star Wars storylines are all about politics.

Just sayin'. . .

Nah. Switzerland is doing just fine with a mix between direct and representative democracy. We vote on about 10 constitutional initiatives and referendums per year on the national level, plus about as many on lower federalistic levels. And we elect representatives on a variety of levels about once per year, too.

In Kim Stanley Robinson's epic Mars trilogy the new Martian constitution is based heavily on the Swiss system once they declare independence from Earth.

Also @jmswood 's humour detector was broken when he saw my initial reply, even tho it paraphrased Family Guy! Oh well...

There's a whole lot of misuse of "democracy" and "republic" in this thread, as if the two are in some way mutually exclusive. All republics are democracies, but not all democracies are republics. Republic:democracy::square:rectangle. It's also interesting that the word "federalism" hasn't been used yet.

The US is a constitutional federal republic.

This is worded much more thoroughly than I can manage but pretty much examples how I was taught the difference between a democracy and republic.

In researching this on the net I found it interesting that there are several interpretations of the US government today. You would think it would be one clearly defined entity but many disagree on its definition.

This got way out of hand. To everyone who doesn't want a political argument cluttering the forums: I'm sorry. It wasn't my intent, but I also know that my original intent is no longer relevant in light of the results. Some of my replies didn't help the matter.

To those of you who actually answered my question, or at least tried to keep this fun: thank you.

I know this is way way off topic but I'm enjoying it more than another discussion about Jumpmasters.

Happy belated 4th July from not so sunny Old York. ?

What is happening?

Did someone really just claim that we owe the existence of X-Wing to America's declaration of independence?

Totally.

BTW, when are they finally going to bring F-16s and Thunderbird Squadron to the game?
