Which will be the last clan, and why do you think it will be Scorpion?

How easily we forget. The Unicorn were there with you from the beginning, and served Hantei like no other clan, by being his eyes and ears beyond the Empire. We are no afterthought.

There will of course be a missing entry prior to Gen Con: the gameplay article of the final clan to be revealed, but my guess is that they will either adjust the preview schedule accordingly, or release both the story and gameplay of the final clan the same day.

Maybe afterthought isn't the right term, but the Unicorn are almost certainly not going to be the center of this first story line.

So, if they are indeed last, it will be because they are being "jammed into the story" rather than defining it.

Like I said, I think Scorpion will be last because they will likely be the clan that ties the whole story line together prior to the Thursday story line event at Gencon.

Several of the remaining clans are easily connectable to the 'current' story: The Unicorn have problems (primarily Kamoko) with the Lion and there's that ancient treaty with the Crane too, the Scorpion themselves have a tenuous alliance with the Lion, and the Phoenix are suspicious of the Unicorn's magic and that question of the kami going around. There are a number of different ways to go about previewing these last three clans but there's enough related story elements to have the Unicorn and Scorpion go back to back.

Phoenix seem generic enough with the story to be shifted around, if necessary. They do have a link to the Unicorn and even the Dragon, but the problems seem to be either general with the kami or centric with the idea of some of the clan going with forbidden or forgotten lore. Just less of a connect with the short term story of the Lion/Crane and more with the possible long term story of whatever evil or disaster is coming.

Phoenix following Crab and then flowing into Unicorn works really well if the story is centered on types of magic and the council's fear of them. Tainty Maho and Pony Meishodo (I may have spelled that wrong) are both threats in the eyes of the council. Hopefully there's a hint of black scrolls somewhere in the story too.

Scorpion last because they are key to the whole story, and everything else that you've all said.

I can live with it, but I hope they could go with something more original than the Black Scrolls.

I think the last Clan to be previewed will be Scorpion because the first cycle of chapter will revolve around the Coup.

They will be last because they are cool.

I am really wondering if they will do the coup or not. The setting is nearly identical to AEG's start, but it doesn't take much for the story to become completely different. I would not be surprised if the obsidian fist and jade fist, and naga were all completely different because the story would change more over time... but the scc is the first story and nothing is really different yet... I'm waiting in anticipation.

I wouldn't bet on a coup story. I could be wrong....but I doubt it.

If, and I mean IF, the Day of Thunder will spawn from the same situation as before, with the Last Hantei being the vessel of Fu Leng.... Then I'd rather it be something else that causes the Emperor to die and bring his corrupted son to the throne. While the SCC in the novel was well planned and you had a real respect for the Scorpion, I never thought it the best idea, and I think that having all 7 clans unite to defeat Fu Leng would be a better arc.

Meh.

I'm against rehash in general, and deposing the Hantei specificaly.

One expects the stories to 'ryhme' a bit, having essentially the same cast. To have a 'reboot' then tell the same story seems cheesy and a waste.

Especially since one of the most lauded features of L5R is that the story shapes the game, and the game shapes the story. If the story were the same, I think it would take away from this spirit, even though all stories originally start with a scripted fiction to get things going.

I would like to see Hantei the 38th stay emperor through at least the 1st storyline. Maybe this storyline can focus on how the "thousand years of peace" isn't really that peaceful. Give us some divided factions that help us caste each clan as both hero and villain. Let's make our alliances more real. Maybe in the 2nd story start a civil war that breaks this 1000 year peace narrative, and move to a Shogun who takes control from the Emperor without killing him. Let Hantei 39th darkness come out as he restores himself to power through blood and politics. Spider clan was never a really naturally feeling element, but if the Hantei simply darkens his family as he takes back the throne it can give us some of that spider feel without being shoehorned in. I prefer a state of constant war to this mythological realm where we have all of these samurai, generals, and armies and 1000 years of peace... Just give us a warring state pl0x

Crane will be last. Scorpion won't get any fiction at all, and instead they'll just give Hotaru a second story.

I just don't want the story to degenerate into 'who gets to be in charge now'? back and forth.

They could do a Sengoku Jidai or a Shogunate without changing dynasties.

In which they'll tease even more of the Mantis Clan.

The Mantis had their fun last time around. They should go with different 'rising' MC.

like the Hare, or Wasp.

That's my point, I don't want it to go down the exact same path, with the SCC and DoT.

Meh, let the Mantis rise. We Wasp do better when we have meat shields allies keeping the foe a good bow-shot away from us.

I'm perfect fine with no CLANS UNITED!!!! type of super stories

I'd rather they just gave more to minor clans, rather than having them become a great clan. Too bad rotation is so slow, or I'd recommend they make some factions rise and fade with rotation - so we could have different minor clans represented in turn without them taking over.

The idea that the minor clans merged to become a single great clan kinda sucks too, as it takes away so many smaller identities.

Tell you what.

If we can have a story scene where Yoritomo accidently slices off his own head with a kama, I'll stop bagging on the Mantis.

deal?:P

Are you saying that not all minor clans are pirates? That's totally not the impression I get when the minor clan faction ability (that's useless without total uniformity) is Naval....

Hey, I couldn't care less what you do to Yolomojo, so long as Tsuruchi remains awesome!
