Which will be the last clan, and why do you think it will be Scorpion?

By Shosuro Nasunaka, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Which will be the last clan revealed, and why do you think it will be Scorpion?

I think Unicorn will be spoiled last. But if Scorpion is spoiled last, its because of the story; I would expect it will be because the Scorpion story would tie all the other stories together since they are moving toward the SCC(which I believe will happen, despite the hope that it doesn't occur again).

Which clan do I think will be revealed last?

I think that it may be the Phoenix , because I think that someone who doesn't know the setting will come closer to the phoenix by extrapolating from peripheral information available in other write ups than they would for the Unicorn, Scorpion, or Crab (and we've already had the Dragon, the Lion, and the Crane). I suspect that this is the same reason that they were the last of the major clans to have a "Way of the [insert clan here]" book when the 1rst edition RPG rolled out back in the day.

As for your other question, I think it will be the Scorpion because:

Scorpion was the last major clan revealed in the original game, not showing up until the first expansion.

The Scorpion write up will be full of revealed secrets that get everyone excited for the release of the new game.

Because the Scorpion would wait until everyone else had made their moves to take the most opportune action!

Maybe FFG is incredibly cruel and it will be Crab.

Scorps last because the other clans are connected in pairs by a plot point.

Lion/Crane. Toshi Ranbo

Crab/Dragon The Horde attack/Togashi's vision I truly believe the latter is the former

Unicorn/Phoenix. The conflict over Meishodo

leaving Scorpion for last

I don't know if it has been officially announced, but some of my friends are saying Phoenix is after Crab? I'm not sure where that info came from, but it's out there.

I think Scorpion will be last simply because Scorpion are the legacy as the "main clan" of the first "main storyline" which was the Scorpion Coup. They'll most likely inform the Gencon story prize and will therefore be reserved for last.

The only other option, if Phoenix is indeed after Crab, is Unicorn, who may be last just because they're so far removed from the rest of Rokugan that they could be just...an afterthought.

But I don't think they'd lead into Gencon with an afterthought. The last clan is likely intentionally chosen as a lead in to Gencon, so I am going to go with Scorpion.

Maybe we'll get a Phoenix/Unicorn twitter vote?

Until Nu5R is released, the rules of Old5R apply.

In Old5R, the player with the lowest honour goes last.

Everybody knows that Scorpion have the lowest honour.

Therefore, the Scorpion go last.

Simples!

Phoenix have to be last to continue being the punching bag in the story and keeping our fanbase divided, obviously.

Oh. Uh, Scorpion for plot reasons? That checks out.

You fire chickens are certainly a dour bunch.

Chin up! It a new day:)

I'm certain things will much better this time around.

Phoenix will be last because they're not going to spoil maho, taint, and the rest of the rest of the cool stuff isn't getting spoiled until the last minute!

How easily we forget. The Unicorn were there with you from the beginning, and served Hantei like no other clan, by being his eyes and ears beyond the Empire. We are no afterthought.

There will of course be a missing entry prior to Gen Con: the gameplay article of the final clan to be revealed, but my guess is that they will either adjust the preview schedule accordingly, or release both the story and gameplay of the final clan the same day.

Nah I jest. I'm actually loving the Phoenix previews we've seen so far. I just want MORE.

That being said I've really enjoyed every clan's previews. I'm just very anxious for Phoenix and Unicorn.

I don't really want any of the 'final 3' to be last (assuming Crab are next). They do seem to be paired up - either storywise or mechanically (or both) - and Scorpion look like being the exception. It looks likely that Unicorn will have an emphasis on attacking and seizing initiative, so I wonder if Phoenix will be focused more on defence and rewarded for NOT going first: Phoenix retaliation versus Unicorn's pre-emptive striking....so by my logic that makes the order: Unicorn, Phoenix, Scorpion.

But something tells me that Scorpion will be next (after Crab), with Phoenix & Unicorn fighting to avoid the ignominy of last place..

You'd thin the Bronies and the Fire Chicken would be used to it by now:P

I agree that the Unicorn and Phoenix will have opposite themes, but I still think Scorpion will be the last clan, to unveil more of the story and get a bigger buzz going into the big release.

I'm just hope we get 'gaijin flavored samurai' Bronies, not 'Barbarian Jerkwad' Bronies.

I wouldn't be surprised if

A. with the Scorpion/Lion alliance the Scorp story takes us full circle back to the Lion/Crane storyline.

B. We see how the Scorpion are manipulating/influencing ALL the other clans storylines.

Kachiko finishes writing her letter as Shoju enters her room. She folds and seals it. As an afterthought she raises it to her lips and kisses it before placing it in the shadows next to her. Shoju's stoic gaze rests on her, his mask covering his face completely. "Yokuni bought it?" she asks him. Shoju remains silent, as if pondering the meaning of her words... "Yes. Both of them," he replies. "A Ninja Shapeshifter tattoo, drawn with the ink from the shadows, now hides within the lines of his other tattoos. FFG would have never given us a shapeshifter again, but the Dragon will always know their champion is just a copy of our foot soldiers."

"They march to annihilate the Crab?" she replies.

"Not directly. They believe there is a force of shadowlands that has passed the wall. The Crab will consider this an insult, it will surely mean war. What about the Lion? Arasou was always a punk."

"I just notified Hotaru that the Egg of Pan Ku has spawned a horrible clone of Arasou, and he leads the Lion to her lands. I told her the only way to kill him is to fire 2 arrows while blinded by tears. The Arrow will know the way."

"Yes, excellent." While the mask completely conceals his face, you can almost sense he is licking his lips. "We placed the Hentai in Ujimitsu's chamber, he will have to commit seppuku in his initial story too *spoiler alert*"

"Oh, and the Unicorn have fleas" Kachiko almosts laughs as she blurts it out. "That's the only thing in their story, it's just 1 line. Utaku Kamoko is actually a guy, and he smells, and he has fleas."

*The End*

Since it appears as though they're doing clans by clan rivalries, Crab is next (obviously), then it'll be Unicorn/Phoenix, then Scorpion, to take us into the setting at launch with the big "plot twist" (probably the coup, but I hope not).

I think they said in a Facebook Live that they weren't going to do any more preview polls, but that they would poll us about which clans we get to see play in an official game play video.

Well played.

Also, I think it will be Scorpion because as far as this world goes they're the closest thing to the 'bad guys' that I think we'll be playing in tournaments.

I do indeed think it will be Scorpion.

There are some good story-based reasons for this mentioned above. I'd also like to point out that, gameplay-wise, the "conflicting couples" of clans are also characterised by embodying a specific aspect of the game but with a different twist to it:

Crab/Dragon The Horde attack/Togashi's vision I truly believe the latter is the former

Unicorn/Phoenix. The conflict over Meishodo

Lion and Crane are very unbalanced towards Military and Political conflicts, respectively. Both are very honor-bound.

Crab and Dragon will probably both play big characters, but Dragon treasures each one of them whereas Crab won't be loathe to sacrifice them when needed (Stoic Gunso preview); Dragon will also strive for balance, whereas Crab will almost surely favor Military. Another possibile opposition, wildly speculating, is that, since Dragon is good at adding Fate to its characters, Crab might be good at removing them from its opponents (just Jade Tetsubo so far); regardless, it seems likely that Crab too will manipulate Fate (to represent their persistence).

Unicorn and Phoenix will probably be at the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as aggression goes: if my speculation is correct, Unicorn will be a "pure rush" Clan (with Brad stating in the latest live that they will also favor playing a swarm of characters), whereas Phoenix will probably be the most defensive Clan. Right now, I don't know about a possible trait they might have in common - maybe Unicorn will get some form of Meishodo in its cards, so that both Clans will have a "magic" theme?

Finally, Scorpion is the "negative" polar opposite of Crane in politics: where Crane favors honoring its own characters, Scorpion will attempt to dishonor its opponents'; Crane loves playing face-up cards, whereas Scorpion will be as devious as possible. So I think they will go full circle and "connect" Scorpion to the first Clan spoiled (we've also seen in the first fiction that Crane perceive both Lion and Scorpion as enemies).

Of course it's likely that in the future we will get to explore different possibilities for those relationships (for example, Lion and Crab both focused on Military, but one honorable the other one dishonorable), both story-wise and gameplay-wise.
