Quick draw their fire vs. the uncanceled kylo crit?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing Rules Questions

How does it play out if the kylo trigger occurs on a ship next to quick draw with draw their fire?

QD eats the crit with a shield and fires back. Or if he has no shields he takes a normal drawn critical not the one on the condition card.

Thank you captain!

Kylo happens and DtF does NOTHING!

This is because the condition replaces the "suffering a crit" with just being dealt a card. There is NOTHING that DtF can do when cards are flying around.

Is there some citation for this? I haven't gone through the entire FAQ yet but Maarek doesn't work well with Kylo.

It says when you suffer a crit. You didn't suffer a crit if dtf diverted it. More specifically dtf triggers right after compare results declares it a hit but before deal damage step. Isytds triggers at 7.ii when the critical damage is first suffered.

Of course DTF also uses the "suffer" language so I guess the question may be which takes precedence. Does ISYTDS kick in destroying the crit before DtF can draw it away or does DtF pull it before the suffering occurs. This could be something that requires initiative to determine.

Now if DtF gets to go an pull the crit would that also mean that a ship with the Condition on it pulling a crit with DtF would then trigger the condition.

You are correct on the second point, if the ship witg dtf pulls a crit it suffers the chosen card on the condition. Dtf says right on it that its when a hit is declared you can suffer the uncanceled result that's at the end of compare results. You're taking it before it gets to be used at step 7.ii You are suffering it on their behalf.

ISYTDS triggers off suffering damage. DTF triggers off the attack hitting, which is a distinctly earlier event.

Draw Their Fire diverts the [kaboom] to Quickdraw before it becomes a critical damage.

I'll Show You the Dark Side is a card on the ship being attacked, and says "When you suffer critical damage during an attack..." so it can't do anything to Quickdraw or any other ship.

Of course, if there were two uncancelled [kaboom]s, you could wind up using both Draw Their Fire and I'll Show You the Dark Side in the same attack, but DTF can't result in Quickdraw receiving the damage card on ISYDS.

What if ISYDS is on QD and she uses DTF to pull the uncancelled crit on to her. Does she loose a shield or take the ISYDS card?

She's suffering a critical damage during an attack, so ISYDS would trigger and deal its card.

What I thought, thanks!
