Scenario Where Doom Awaits and it's Aftermath (Spoiler potential, but light talk)

By Bronze, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

What has been the overall consensus and feel after approaching the previously released scenario?

At first, of course there is a feeling of devastation(if it didn't go well for you). All that time and effort that you put in is suddenly lost. That feeling lasted for several hours, but then it waned. The experiences that they have provided for us in the Arkham Files is what is being delivered to us. This is what we should expect from this type of game.

There will be many varied degrees of hate for the decisions that were made in this scenario and the final outcomes. That I don't doubt. It took me several attempts in the first campaign to complete the last scenario to satisfaction and I assume that it will take me several attempts to do so in this campaign; and i haven't even seen anything about the last scenario yet even. The first play through is always the roughest. Especially since you typically don't know what is around the corner (unless you peak at stuff before you play; but that is your own choice). It is a cooperative game after all however though. If you so choose not to deal with the punishment of the reset, then you can simply replay that last scenario and move forward or develop your own house rules.

The second and third passes playing through this thus far have me building my characters significantly different than the first pass, making better decisions along the way and including cards I wouldn't have considered in that first pass as well. The second pass didn't fair well either for me. Even though I was well prepared, still that scenario threw me more curve-balls than I was able to handle and a key character went down faster than they should have which put me into a bad situation to complete it once more.

But that's ok. The game is providing me with replay potential. Otherwise I would likely be waiting for this next pack to come along the whole time. Again, people will have different opinions. They don't have the time to keep replaying stuff or don't like the idea of custom ruling the replay the scenario etc. because they want the real experience. They can feel cheated from this experience. Don't give up if you enjoy it though. You can pull through. Or if you would like, play the last scenario as a standalone to experience it while your other characters are making their trek back up the hill. That is also an option.

One of these times, I'll make my way through that portal and that feeling of accomplishment will be all that much stronger from the failures I have endured and all that more rewarding.

What has been your experiences and feelings after playing this particular scenario?

I haven't replayed it because we made it through the first time. But I personally loved all the different little changes based on decisions/outcomes throughout the entire campaign. Jenny had to take a Mental Trauma because Searching For Izzie popped up right at the end. They do have a preview of the final scenario on the home page.

Having "lost" - typically by resigning in the nick of time - the last couple of scenarios previous to this one, we ended up completing this one very handily.

The toughest part was, without doubt, the limits on the Investigation to find the paths at all. Mainly that neither of us (two, my missus and I) had very good intrinsic Intellect scores, instead depending on Duke, Flashlights, and clue-giving event/skill cards, all of which are useless on the finding the paths (as it is a special action). We're limping a lot though, so as we're heading into that gate with four traumas between us, I fear for what we can actually accomplish there. Time will tell (when it is actually back in stock locally).

I usually refrain from reading the alternate resolutions, but this someone how sprung out at me and I was surprised to see that it basically ends the campaign prematurely. Gutsy move on FFG.

Hi ,I've just played through WDA with Rex and Agnes. They made it but I have a feeling that I misunderstood the revealed 'Ascending Path' . Are you Forced to 'Investigate' , because if not why not simply advance to Sentinel Peak?

Forced to investigate what? You have to investigate the 2 central locations to "spawn" the other locations where you get clues to advance the act, which is what allows you to ignore the game text preventing you From entering the Ascending Path or Sentinel Peak.

Once you have advanced to the Ascending Path nothing seems to prevent advancing to Sentinel Peak and when there whilst one fights the other investigates and gains the clues there to advance and to end the scenario. In the original question it was the revealed Ascending Path that has the action icon and 'Investigate' . Thanks for your help.

Where are you getting the 2 clues per Investigator from required to enter Sentinel Hill?
