Tie/SF & Tie/FO budget starting squad

By Bober00, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi,

I'm new to this game. I'm goin' to build triple T70 squad but Dark Side tells me to make some Imperial squad too and I'm thinking about using my two Tie/FO left from core set. At this moment I want to add 2x Tie/SF - Quickdraw and Backdraft.

Now, when I check points I see that 2x SF & 2x FO are very expensive and there is no place for additional cards so... what is better?

- empty 2x SF & 2x FO

- 1x SF & 2x FO

- 2x SG & 1x FO

What additional cards should I use? Later I could get better pilots for Tie/FO but for now I can use base pilots

QD BD and Omega Leader is a great squad.

Omega Leader is about the only worthwhile /fo, and he gets Juke and Comm Relay, plus Stealth Device or TIE Mk2 if you've got spare points.

/sfs generally get Fire Control System and Lightweight Frame, but the other slots are kind of up for grabs. I like boosting their pilot skill with epts. Tech slot can be Pattern Analyser or Targetting Synchrnoiser quite comfortably, and the latter goes especially well with OL, allowing him to use the /sf's lock to reroll dice, whilst retaining his lock for his ability.

You should be able to fit 4 in... I make it 86pts for Quickdraw, Backdraft and two Epsilon pilots. You could actually run my tournament squad and just swap out Colonel Vessery for a couple of TIE/FO.

Your problem is more that the TIE/sf really benefit from you filling out those upgrade slots and if you've got a limited collection you might struggle to do that effectively.

If you are on a budget Tie/sf is not a good idea. They do not play well out of the box

If you are on a budget and want good imperial ships buy Imperial Veterans Expansion and TIE/fo Expansion

With these and your core set you can play this list, which are rather good

TIE Defender Countess Ryad, Tie/x7 (32)

TIE Bomber Tomax Bren, Crack Shot (25)

TIE/fo Omega Leader, Juke, Comm Relay (26)

TIE/fo Epsilon Ace (17)

Total: 100 points

Thanks, I will check this out

And what would you suggest to buy to make good squad? I mean cards, I could get them separately on ebay or something

If you can borrow, proxy, or don't mind buying some upgrades, I've had decent lock with this.

TIE/sf Fighter: · "Quickdraw" (29)
· A score to settle (0)
Fire Control System (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)
TIE/sf Fighter: · "Backdraft" (27)
Adaptability (Increase) (0)
Fire Control System (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)
TIE/fo Fighter: Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Crack Shot (1)
TIE/fo Fighter: Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Crack Shot (1)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

After buying Imperial Veterans expansion and the TIE/fo expansion you have some good effective ships and then I think you should start getting to know the ships. Playing 5-10 battles with them before deciding, what you want to buy next. Knowing how to fly the ships beats good list building 9 out of 10 times.

Reguarding buying cards separately, I think its a mistake at the prices people demand. I rather buy ship expansions because you get a LOT more for your money and you never know which cards you will need in future builds.
