Why not? They look gorgeous. And if I ever get into Armada I'll have a ton of stuff already.
Buying Armada stuff just for the models?
Because they're really expensive.
I thought seriously about doing sets of custom TLs using Armada squadrons, took one look at the price, and changed my mind.

How would that even work?
Would also like to know how they would work because I am not opposed to it.

Paint an armada version of the x-wing ship to match your paint job of the x-wing ship, glue it down to some sort of stand, probably a red TL.
If you feel the need, do a duplicate and glue it to a blue one.
Only really works for large base ships though.
The Armada models are great. I'm deeply invested in both.
I'll be buying the Profudity when they eventually release it. I love the look of the ship. Of course, then I'll have to buy a core set, a star destroyer, a Hammerhead expansion, a CR-90 expansion, a couple Nebulon-Bs, a couple GR-75 expansions, some fighter squadrons packs...
I'm currently recreating the Battle of Scarif in X-wing scale. Might as well do Armada scale as well. I fear for my wallet.
I want the ISD, that's all - so many of the other ships look like garbage. I've mused about justifying it by playing it as a Decimator model. Not sure I'd get away with that in a tournament, though!
It's a great game! Different from X-Wing, but way fun to be an Admiral. And the Jumpmaster is cool, but not OP.
...plus, the designers at FFG seem to actually care about balance within the game, unlike X-Wing (to date at least, hoping for the rest of the "Bringing Balance to the Force" FAQ sometime soon).

I actually find Armada to be cheaper than X-Wing, both in how much you get in a pack and how much less you typically need.
For instance, an Armada Squadrons pack is only $20 and comes with
6x X-Wings
6x B-Wings
6x Y-Wings
6x A-Wings
Given your described plan, that'd be $20 to make 24 red target locks, which is less than $1 a lock, which is cheaper than any acrylic lock options, even.

Yeah except I'd be looking at doing it for large ships, as noted above

$20 would still get you 8 locks, which is still cheaper than many acrylic options.
They look very cool. I've done them for the falcon down to x-wings. You can get 10 sets acrylic tokens blue and red acrylic from Etsy for $12 shipped. Then cut the stand down for the ship. drill a hole in the token and glue the stand into it. Make sure the stand is facing the way you want the ship to face. I glue mine with the ship stuck in the stand for placement. once the glue sets on the acrylic token and stand you can remove the ship. the big ships use one stand and the fighters use a triple one that you cut the tip of the stand off. You can use the same target lock for all your large ships if you don't glue the ship in. Same with the fighters.
These are my first ones. I use them all the time because they look good. I do carry a few sets of the card board ones just in case these confuse my opponent.
Edited by bswaimThey're too much for me, just to have the bendy plastic models.
I think its a great idea for a game, but the price point doesn't interest me...even for a game. At least I'd consider it if it was priced like X-wing to get into. Which probably won't happen

Yeah the $75-$100 entry point isn't that enticing... but those models do sure look good!
I really want an ISD and raider from armada.
I painted and modded about 40 armada ship target locks over a 5 week span. Most of those were just paint jobs as the person as going to use the stands that came with the ships. I had cancer removed and would have been bored if I didn't have something to do while I recovered. I got a Venator RSD completed in that time frame also. Its not for everybody as the fighters at hard to see.
Armada's prices look high, but since the game isn't nearly as centered around card combo's you'll find you hardly ever buy an expansion "just for the cards" like people do all the time in X Wing. For example Expertise is everywhere but the U Wing isn't - lots of U Wings bought for the cards obviously. X Wing is like crack, you keeping needing 1 more hit for $15, but ends up adding up to way more money than building out a fleet for Armada.
