This came up in a casual game today and I'm 90% sure I'm overthinking it.
My friend is playing his eObi-Wan/Maz deck against my QG/Rey. Ben has 9 damage on him, so two health left. He's already been activated, and his two die are in the pool. One is a blank and one is a double focus. He also has a Force Training die showing a special and a blank Lone Operative die.
I Riposte two shields off of Qui-Gon and throw them at Ben to finish him off. This triggers his ability to play a blue card for free from my opponent's hand/discard pile. He chooses to play My Ally Is The Force (abbreviated hereafter as MAitF). Lots of really complicated stuff happened after that that I can't wrap my head around, but we can skip all that if the sequencing of this can be clarified first. After MAitF is played, does Obi-Wan immediately die? His die were the only ones in the pool on my opponent's side, so they're the only legal targets for the card. Can he resolve any of Obi-Wan's die with MAitF, or are they removed then and there?
We played it (and I'm almost certain we're wrong) as if Ben's die were still legal targets, which ensued in even more shenanigans. So he resolved the double focus to flip some die, but the double focus stayed in the pool because of MAitF. The card is still technically in the queue, so that triggered the ambush. With the ambush action, he rolled in Maz and resolved two of Ben's die that were still in the pool, using a 3 melee side to kill my Rey (she had 7 damage on her). At that point Obi-Wan was defeated and MAitF went to the discard pile along with all of his upgrades. There were also some other things we were wondering about, like what if he resolved a Lone Operative special off of MAitF to heal damage...would he...not die?
So what's the right sequencing here? I know I'm overthinking it.
