Force Awakens theme.

By Herr Style, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, after the kids got me the Upsilon shuttle for fathers day (with a little guidance from me, and my cash card), I thought I'd go for a themed list like this: -

Major Stridan

EU, Pattern Analyzer, Systems Officer, General Hux, Kylo Rens Shuttle

Backdraft

VI, FCS, Light Weight frame, Spec Ops Training

Omega Ace

VI

The thought behind this was to get Maj S to move behind the two PS9 aces whilst still being able to throw out tokens to R1-3, and if necessary do red moves and boost if required with Pattern Analyser.

Backdraft because I like the special text rule!

Omega Ace over Leader because of General Hux and Systems Officer, at worst only getting one free action to meet the Aces criteria of Crits galore! (Well, two or three anyway).

Any comments?

While i dont have much experience it looks like a fun effective list to play

Stridan w/ Hux + Aces is a lot of fun. The hardest part is keeping the shuttle in the fight.

Fly the way you built it. Omega Leader is simply better than Omega Ace in every way, but the points you need for Omega Leader are locked up in other places. You would have to start from scratch to get Omega Leader kitted out properly.

I did try to put OL in but I think Gen Hux is a better choice than Fleet Officer for the two extra points, and I wanted EU for the shuttle. I think FCS on Backdraft as well is too good to miss out on too. I will look and see if I can massage my list a bit to fit OL in and report back later!

Hux Aces (100)

Major Stridan (41) - Upsilon-class Shuttle
Systems Officer (2), General Hux (5), Pattern Analyzer (2)

"Omega Leader" (26) - TIE/FO Fighter
Juke (2), Comm Relay (3)

"Backdraft" (33) - TIE/SF Fighter
Predator (3), Collision Detector (0), Primed Thrusters (1), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

Just that I doubt Stridan will get much use out of his engine upgrade. You're buying him to deliver tokens a-go-go to the rest of the squad, and if he's using his actions to come about he's not doing that. Besides which, an upsilon's green banks (which you'll want to trigger systems officer) are speed 2 - which is uncomfortably fast in a big ship - so boosting and going even faster is going to make for awkward cornering.

Ultimately, it's a question of how long it'll take your opponent to kill one or more ships. With only 2 wingmen, as soon as one of them goes down, you could have replaced General Hux with a cheaper Fleet Officer and gotten the same result, or even accepted you've not got a focus on the shuttle and just used Co-ordinate, which is free. Fanatical devotion is a nice condition, but an upsilon's 4-dice guns don't need it, it doesn't mesh with omega ace's ability and backdraft......I guess could use it, but you really want the critical through, not a normal hit.

A fleet officer and fire control system (your systems slot is empty) is probably just as effective as hux himself, with the added bonus that you can TL/Focus the shuttle's big gun if it's advantageous to do so, and no-one gets saddled with no defensive focus.

I was considering EU and Pattern Analyser to do 1 turns and then boost in case I got someone behind me. I think I will forego this to fit in OL then, and maybe put something else on Maj. S. At the moment, having specific cards isn't important as I don't do tourneys, but something I will look at for the future, so swapping Hux (which I have) for Fleet Officer (which I don't) isn't a drama now.
