Is Palp dead?

By dpuck1998, in Star Wars: Destiny

Seems like everyone is now building to defend against palp, is he still viable for store tourneys?

Ya, Darth Vader killed him...

Unfortunately for ePalp the same answer for him is the same answer for PoeMaz and that is removal. If you aren't removing a Poe or Palp di every turn you are most likely going to lose. Unfortunately for Palp that removal is more detrimental to him then Poe. Also, people are finally starting to realize how good GUARDIAN is, and when a di is removed by guardian, Palp doesn't get his extra 2 damage. (Pro Tip: Guardian is great vs Vibro also)

Great ;) now I have 3 hours to find a new build for store champs.

I don't think it's dead at all. Two made the final four of the store championship I played in yesterday.

Yea, i agree that he isn't dead. Although, mitigation really hurts this deck Palpatine is still rather high on a tier list.

Ok so now two hours to decide ;)

Yes, he died when he was thrown down a seemingly bottomless shaft and then the death star that housed said shaft was blown up by rebel scum.

eSnap/eHan? Might not be tier 1, but it's close. Control and disrupt is quite fun!

Palp's still really good, in my opinion. My local tourneys still see him in the top four quite frequently. Like people have said though, he dies from dice removal. I beat him using Obi-Wan in the final round of a tournament, who I have decided is completely underrated - again, guardian (and the event Guard) are the best.

I have played ePalp quite a bit and it really feels like an odd list to play, typically I find that you either crush your opponent because they don’t have enough die mitigation (or didn’t draw enough of it), or you lose as your opponent mitigates 1 or both die most turns and you basically sit and watch as you lose and there's little you can do about it. A single die removal is super amplified vs. palp compared to other decks just because you will almost always have less die than other decks and the power of your palp die is typically the equivalent of 2 other dice, which is why mitigation hurts the deck so much.

I've rolled 3R on both dice with palp only to have both die removed by the best defense, defensive stance and even a played DL44 overwritten with another DL44, having a single card or play mitigate 10 damage is such a blowout for any deck.

In terms of if its still good/dead its really meta dependent, if the players in your area evolve their lists to have more mitigation then its pretty hard to keep winning with, however if the players in your area don’t evolve to have more mitigation the deck feels super easy to win with.

Should a meta ever shift to a mitigation light meta, Palp will be waiting to monster everyone, but right now he only preys on the unprepared, which seems to be less and less players.

TL;DR In an unprepared meta ePalp wrecks face, in a meta with lots of mitigation, pick another deck.

I once used decisive blow against a pelp list.... My finest hour!!!!

To me, Palp is the 'Gatekeeper' deck. He's relevant in the meta, but he's also got specific weaknesses and decks can generally build against him without making the deck significantly weaker against other decks (as compared to something like Poe/Maz).

Better (or luckier) players are still going to win games with Palp, but you can't just take him in and expect to get free wins against good decks.

There's also an element of local meta. For example, where I am we've had three store champs in the city. At the first one, half the field was Palp or Poe/Maz. So me and a friend teched specifically to beat it for the next one; with more players there was only one Palp and I don't think any Poe/Maz. Everyone was looking to play counter decks. Then in the third SC, we got the middle ground between the two extremes. So there's times when it's going to be a matter of anticipating the meta.

Well I stuck with Palp and went 2-2, both losses to poe/maz

Both games I lost came down to the final role/action and I could have won either of them easily. The 2 wins were blowouts.

I enjoy playing palp, but my most enjoyable list is jango/9's, but I think I'll keep Palp going for one more tourney.
