I fell in love with Rokugan many years ago when the novels were released. After reading the novels, I dabbled into the lore also. I have never been exposed to tabletop games so I never played L5r. With the revamp of the game and world of Rokugan, I'm really interested in giving it a shot. I'll admit that it does seem a little intimidating. With all that being said, are there clubs or players in the Charlotte area who would be willing to show a newcomer the ropes?
Any portals to Rokugan in the Charlotte area?

I am told by the Charlotte crew that is where they are playing these days.
Raleigh, NC here. Wooo!
YLGS is not the only place to look. For those who may remember this Honorable Scorpion, I'll be back playing, plausibly running tournaments again in the Charlotte area. YLGS is on the east side. I'll likely be working with Matt at Parker Banner Kent & Wayne on the west to get regular tournaments there upon release. Shoot me a message if you want more information.
No sleight to YLGS by the way, they seem to be good, just on the other end of the city. I do know that for some FFG games, there are even city championships in Charlotte in the area so perhaps friendly rivalries can increase the player base.

Fair enough, I just asked the Above Board Games guys from old L5R.
Raleigh/Durham has the same problem, and I expect we will have a split community again between Atomic Empire, Game Theory and possibly one of the Cary stores like Gamer's Armory.
Well if it says anything I used to run the Kotei in the the area and started in Imperial Edition. I stopped playing competitively a few years back because of finally being fed up with AEG power creep. I am a fan of the LCG model though.
As another South of Raleigh resident maybe, we'll have to take a drive to Charlotte once a month. I want to see the L5R crowds of old.
As for the Raleigh area, I think it comes to what store(s) get critical mass. Atomic is too far a weekly drive for me. But that leaves plenty of options and I am hoping the community will be very vocal about where they'll be.
Man I miss things back there. I had to move thanks to work but YLGS is just about the best place in charlotte. I don't know if they are still around as it's been a while since I lived in Raleigh but Game Theory always seemd to be on top of new stuff. I don't think there was any l5r when I was there but things change.
I don't know which Raleigh/Durham/Cary store will end up with the biggest community, but I do know that the intention for Atomic Empire is to run a monthly league in lieu of GNK tourneys, at least at this time.

Oh good, he is running the league. Glad to see him back.
These worked out better for Netrunner for the most part. Though occasional real tourneys were fun.
I am hoping for Gamer's Armory or Event Horizons to have a good group. The other stores are quite a bit further away from me.
I live in Asheville, so I will have to visit all of the above places mentioned.
Check with Wyvern's Tale in Asheville, they're likely to be supportive if you want to start something. Charlotte 'area' had a lot of players, all the big Koteis used to get hosted there back in the day as it was central to the NC, SC, TN, and VA groups. It's not 'Charlotte' per se, but I know Rock Hill, SC had a big playgroup (they're the Above Board Games group Mirith mentioned).
