Rey Crew Slow Roll Rock Placement?

By HanScottFirst, in X-Wing

I searched for rock placement, and a quick scan did not find anything that seemed to match this...

In essence, how do you put the rocks down if you want to slow roll to bank focusses on Rey? Moldy Crow on the HWK would be a similar situation as well.

I used to build a wall on my side, but that did not work out. I now have been trying to place rocks on the opponent's side in corners more or less, or thought about placing a big one right in the middle to prevent them from a diagonal pursuit if I am moving horizontally down my side of the board.

My problem is, if my opponent needs to slow roll, it obviously works out. But if they are flying fast ships (TIEs, protectorate, etc.) I can obviously get at least 1, but almost no more than 2 banked before things start to happen. Is there anyway to avoid this, draw out the time before the first engagement? (other than something with minefield mapper lol)

I specifically am flying Leebo with Rey crew right now, which at PS 5 means he gets put down pretty early in setup.

If your opponent wants to come at you full throttle, there isn't anything you can do to stop them. Maybe the rest of your list can buy you some time, but I doubt that kind of baiting is worth it for 1 or 2 tokens.

I would put a tight cluster of rocks in the middle of the board. Set Leebo up in one corner. If your opponent sets up directly opposite you, then just turn and run full speed and let him chase you in circles around the asteroids.

If he sets up on the opposite corner from Leebo then 1 bank in upwards the center of the map on the first turn to see which way your opponent is going to go, then turn the other way and do the same as above.

For slow-rolling, you want the middle to be dense so it slows the enemy down and makes navigation more difficult. Wide open spaces will let everything come barreling down on you.

Since you've got a turret, there's no need for you to be pointing at the enemy.

Deploy in one corner, on the side with the sparsest amount of obstacles, pointed along your edge.

Your opponent's subsequent deployment dictates your opening:

1) If they deploy same side, then travel along your board edge. They will be forced to chase you, and if you go fast they'll have to go through obstacles to do so.

2) If they go opposite side, to cut you off, then do a 1-turn and follow the adjacent board edge. They will have to come through the obstacles to get there.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I will definitely be trying the cluster in the middle.

Keep in mind, dice normally start to roll in rounds 2 and 3. Even with fortress formations, dice roll in rounds 3 or 4.

How many foci do you generally find that you need to be set for the match?
