Today I played a game of monopoly in 45 minutes. I'm not usually a fan of monopoly rethemes but the added rule changes made this more Mariocart-like than monopoly-like.

Yep. That's what I was referring to. It's surprisingly good and surprisingly unmonopolylike.
Wait, Donkey King shows up in that game? Awesome! I'd thought he'd been pretty much exponged from the Nintendo universe. The first Gameboy Donkey Kong title is still among my favorite games of all time.

No, he is in every Mario Kart and Smash Game and in all Mario Party games, though yes it has been 3 years since he had a platformer but he is not expunged. And both Donkey Country Returns (2010) and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (2014) have mostly received positive reviews.
A standard game of Monopoly should take about 45-60 minutes for 4 ppl if played correctly. It's the house rules and that people don't really know how to win that slows it down.
